    TRX-Suspension Training

Do you incorporate the TRX in your client's program? How has it impacted them and how do they feel about it? Does this product give you a great seller point and edge to your sales?

It can be a great tool but I have found a lot of the good suspension exercise you can do will be limited by the type of client you have. Some of the moves are very advanced and the client needs a decent amount of strength to support themselves whilst doing the exercises.

It still can be used for all types of clients and I have found it a great way to progress someones squat depth and doing row/pulling exercises.

I have not tried using it as a selling point, but did use it to change up a clients program who was stalling with their progress and needed a new challenge

Waste of money, this can easily be made. Also good if your client is over 50.
It was used with Drew because of the rotary movements for his shoulder. I think it's one of the most overrated pieces out there.

    Trx

Worked great for me, it lured in clients who for some reason were against weight training.

Copied my reply from a different thread:

I may be in the minority, but I love the TRX! When it is used properly!!! That is the key!

Originally, I got a ton of ego-driven guys that see me training an individual on it or teaching the TRX class and they think it is a joke. They come over afterwards and laugh about how stupid it is…what not. They immediately try to do chest presses with the handles as close to the floor as they can…1-2 crappy reps later they are all smiles. I invite them to play with it and show them a few things and they start to have fun and get challenged.

The key is keeping that core tight and maintaining a straight body in most movements. It is a great (albeit pricey) piece of equipment. I lucked out working on a military base and going to a series of certifications/seminars on the TRX. It has a popular following on base and often I would get special requests to give a platoon a special class for their physical training.

For the folks that think it is a waste of time, that is your right and opinion. It would not be smart to make it the center of your training if you are a competitive powerlifter….but it is a tool to augment some accessory work. But I have used it on runners for strength training and it has helped their run times (as part of a program, not a be-all, end all)

Instead of just doing rows or chest presses……do the hamstring runners, mountain climbers, pendulum swings, atomic pushups, and one-legged burpees. It can be a fun little change up!

Just get a pair of gymnastics rings for $30 and there won't be much you can't do with the real thing.

My view on them (like most things like this) is that it never hurts to have extra tools in your tool box. The majority of people you'll be working with will get the most benefit out of learning how to use barbells, dumbbells, and body weight exercises that are safe, effective and progressable. I follow an 80/20 rule with my training. 80% of the routine should be old school, tried and true, evidence based approaches. 20% can be fun things and new tools like TRX, bosu balls, agility drills, etc.
