As we saw in Brock's last fight, his striking basically sucks. If he doesn't improve that, I don't see how he beats Overeem. Overeem's wrestling is obviously not as good, but Overeem isn't gonna get manhandled like Herring or Mir on the ground. And what is Lesnar gonna do when Overeem gets him with one of those knees or that huge right hand we just saw in K1. It be an awesome fight, but I think Overeem's striking advantage would beat Lesnar's wrestling advantage.

wont happen
but overeem is skilled in every area of mma more so then brock but brock is the best at what he does which is take people down and destroy them. Brock fought much higher level of competition more so then any fighter in history of sport this early in career. Literally fed champions or contenders for nearly every fight with very little experience and dominates all of them.
would be fun fight but lets see overeem vs another top 10 hw though. He utterly dominated rogers like everyone thought fedor would but think what can take away is that fedor is just not good and would be utterly dominated by overeem and any top ufc hw.
overeem and brock are my two favorite hw's though and think both are tremendously skilled top 2 in the world imoupdated 2011

well first k-1=/mma
and in mma yes he has dominated easily a lot of guys but so would carwin or jds or cain vs those opponents. He has not fought the likes of a mir, randy, carwin like lesnar has. If he destroys like barnett-which think was recently signed- and like werdum then we can see how he looks vs higher level guys.
I think he is very skilled technically in every area and proven to be probably best striker in world at hw but brock proven champion of best MMA organization in the world.updated 2011

I agree with what you're saying, but I think Overeem would destroy Mir. Mir has 0 takedown ability and Overeem would just rape him standing.
And Randy... I'm a fan of the guy, but Overeem vs Couture might actually result in death. I can not imagine Randy taking one of those punches from Overeem. He got dropped several times by Nog... Ubereem would seriously hurt him.Anti-*******ry Crew

I agree with everything you say, but I still feel Overeem is the biggest threat to Lesnar now.
But your post also brings up another interesting topic, how would you figure Carwins chances against Overeem? My feeling is it would be the worst possible matchup for Carwin.
And this makes me feel that Overeem could/would have finished Lesnar if he had gotten him in a position similar to what Carwin had.

Haha i think it's safe to say that overeem is #1 HW in the world at this moment. Alistair is more skilled in every aspect of MMA other than wrestling. Brock won't have a strength advantage also so ... he won't be able to just low skill manhandle overeem like he did with other guys.
Please he got thrown over and pounded by Carwin before he punched himself out.

I think carwin good wrestler and could use his wrestling more in that fight. He has been able to rely on his boxing more in most fights even vs lesnar before he gased. Yet he could implement different strategy vs overeem. I think obviously be huge mistake to stand with him and he probably be picked apart but he would know this I think.
I think a lot of guys could have finished lesnar if land a big shot but the chances are slim of that happening carwin was able to do it in part due to his wrestling to avoid easy takedown. He also got a good shot early on and that really stunned lesnar and made him turtle-possibly ring rust not fighting in a long time also- I think if carwin could not finish lesnar dropping bombs then shows he is very hard to finish.
I think overeem could sub carwin though as I think carwin is weak on the ground imo. People forget that as good as striker overeem is he started as grappler and is very good on ground more sub wins then ko. Yet carwin might want to stand with overeem and might get picked apart but who knows he is powerful also.updated 2011

Yeah I think mir is mentally not there right now as fighter and would probably get crushed by overeem right now. His last fight vs cro cop was not very convincing and got walked over by carwin. Yet he is a good striker he did ko cro cop and stunned kongo standing and destroyed nog standing. He can hold his own on the ground also.
The randy fight was two years ago which might not seem like a lot but for someone as old as randy it is. He was coming off one of most impressive wins in his career also and had huge fight camp to prepare for noob lesnar who still wrecked him. But yeah randy not really hw anymore and would be destroyed by overeem now.updated 2011

knees aren't exactly a given when guys are going for takedowns. If they were, Thiago Alves would have probably beat both Fitch and GSP....
Overeem matches up pretty well with Lesnar, but I think I'd still pick Brock. I'll start seriously thinking about this hypothetical when it looks like Overeem will sign with the UFC--which doesn't seem to be on the horizon very soon.Deathstroke and I list our most hilariously awful WCW moments (lots of gifs & vids; expect load time):

Anything could happen & could go either way but Brock in all likelihood would beat the likes of Overreem or as they call him in France - La Fat Turde Fedor.
In that category Brock's sheer power , size & strength would prevail. And neither Overreem or La Fat Turde could stop Brock taking them down and when he does and is on top - game over! Brock's striking will definitely improve too.

I haven't seen enough of Overeem at HW. What I've seen from him at LHW tells me he has a small chance. I don't believe he can stop the takedown from Lesnar. I need to see him step it up, or someone sack up and face him. I'm cautiously optimistic, but I favor the dominant wrestler. Flashy K-1 fights mean nothing
I think it's stupid when someone puts Overeem in the scenario where Carwin was, and says he'd finish. That's like saying if Lesnar gets the clinch he won't be shucked off like Rogers was.
