Basically in early september i was doing my warm up set on dumbell bench and my right shoulder locked up i couldnt move my shoulder at all initially i had to sit up and drop the weight then when i lowered my arm i couldnt actually lift it at all and was incredibly painful
next few days following it was very sore, now it doesn't really hurt but my shoulder feels different feels more restricted and while i work out im constantly afraid it will lock up again it feels like it might
and if i raise my elbow up with like my hand towards my chest my shoulder feels really weak =[
any idea on what this is or what i could do?

I'm going to the good ole standby of a labral tear. It's a good guess to hedge my bet on.

that
id say be carefull if it keeps happening it can cause damage
like lat pulls downs behind head can aggravate it and alongwith a number of other things
if it hurts lay off on it
im currently off lifting and doing physical therapy to stabalize my shoulders and note this is a tiny muscle group so you dont need to overload it with weight
do these also but i dont recomend doing the w's(last exercise in vid)
but you can do it with 2lb weights make sure you bring arms even with body not past
go slow and when you get to the top hold for about 5 secs

There are a couple of things you can do.
Foam rolls are great for injuries and injury prevention. As well as other benefits. At my 24 hour fitness I use the foam roll every time I go, it feels great when you are done and helps your body. Youtube it.
Id also suggest shoulder therapy, google some therapy exercises that you can do. I myself stretch about every day and do yoga. Its great.
Whenever there is something wrong with my body I always work to get it back to normal asap.
Oh and by the way, my hips were causing me allot of pain. And Ive always experienced weird feelings in my hip rotators for a long time but as soon as I started using the foam roll it disappeared.Last edited by Tomi_Li; 10-06-2010 at 02:58 PM.

My grandpa had a shoulder problem like that. Carpenter, lifting lots of lumber. His doctor said that the best thing he could do while he waited for it to heal was while he was in the shower, keep stretching it, bringing it through full ROM, so that the hot water would loosen the muscle, and he could work it out.

Could be labrum strain/partial tear/rupture. Could be tendons around the labrum are inflammed. Either way, rest ice compression elevation (not really applicable) RICE.
Get physical therapy done on it = estem, ultrasound etc. MRI as a last result only because they are expensive and it probably won't tell you anything ground breaking.
After your better, or good enough to lift again, def. incorporate external rotation for shoulder. This is the whole reason this problem happened. Your infraspinatus, Teres minor, are weak and underpowered compared to your chest and anterior deltoids. To live is Christ, to die is gain. -Phil. 1:21
