kind of belt

considering a new one from big 5.they have altus and valero.also they have one that fastens velcro status and the other that are pronged.also some are the same width all the way around while some are fatter in the back area but thin out towards the front buckle.which is the best??/

Get a lever belt for ease of on/off.
They have tapered belts that go both ways front/back.
Unless you are going to get three different belts for squat/dead/bench
I think your o.k. with non-tapered.

Check inzer lever belt and sheik but for the money I went with Inzer.
