The hormonal response to exercise is most relevant here and that is the reason behind low intensity cardio. Firstly, high intensity activity is more effective in breaking down fatty acids in the fat cell, but at this level of intensity, the body prefers to use glucose instead of fatty acids for fuel. Also, high levels of lactate (released from high intensity exercise) traps fatty acids in the fat cells. This means that at high intensities fatty acid release is inhibited and fat oxidation is crippled. All these negatives point toward the use of low intensity cardio instead. The longer the duration of low intensity cardio, the more fatty acids are released and oxidised.
What's with the huge HIIT craze then? People are touting it off as the end all of fat

The secret to burning fat is to do it after fasting ( morning workout) HIIT cardio combined with BCAA'S while your body is depleted of glycogen. Since there are no carbs ( glycogen ) present, your body is forced to use fat as it's fuel source. HIIT also releases up to 450% more HGH and extends your post cardio fat burn up to 24 hours.

Your body does prefer to use glycogen to fuel your workouts. this is why you deplete your body of glycogen prior to the workout. After a 12 hour fast ( morning cardio) supplement with 1 gram per 10 pounds of body weight, a 3:1:1 ratio of Luciene, Valiene, Isolucine. Beverly and GNC have this ratio. This tricks your body into thinking your in a catabolic state and forces it to use fat as fuel during your workout.

I'm proof that this works after getting to 9% body fat from 32% in just 6 months.
