    Dear a7stringkilla,

The actual load being applied in the "all the way back" position is only about 70% of the load applied by the time you reach the "racked" position, and anyone who inroads their quadriceps to the point that they can't get the effort arm back to the racked position will probably collapse shortly after getting off the machine anyway. Chances are that anyone training to that level of muscle exhaustion will be using a training partner (or could certainly call for assistance from someone nearby). Even in the scenario that you have suggested it is unlikely that the operator would suffer a structural injury.

Thank you for the "range limiter" suggestion. I will consider designing in an adjustable range limiter, like the ones that HealthNutMD (Chris) has suggested that I add to the Cross Axes upper body machines if my research finds that it is necessary (as I don't like to unnecessarily complicate my machines unless it is necessary). All of this is, of course, contingent on whether or not I try to build these old machines again (as I could not sell them before).

I will shoot some videos in probably a week (to give the members at these two gyms time to acquaint themselves with these new machines). They say that a "picture is worth a thousand words", so perhaps the videos will show better how these machines actually function. The videos, as I said before, will be placed on "You Tube" with the rest of the "Cross Axes Tech" videos for whoever may be interested.

    Sincerely,

    Henry Maag

I have some new secret pieces coming.. one should be here Tuesday, the other hopefully Friday.

There is so much I want to post, but need more time. I have been obsessing over bearing choices for the Nautilus plate loaded pullover. I need to confirm Monday that I can truly get a 1 5/8" Ball bearing to fit in the CAM/Lever arm. I'd much prefer the lower friction Ball Bearing choices over the Needle bearings... Anyway, there are always so many choices to compare.

Ball Bearings are the choice for lowest friction, but sometimes we do not have the outer diameter required for Ball Bearings, so we have to use Needle roller Bearings.

I think we can get 1 5/8" OD Ball bearings to fit for the CAM/Lever Arm. 15/8"OD and 3/4" ID with steel shields (not rubber sealed) is the lowest possible friction.

For the weight basket. no choice but to go with 3/4" OD, 1/2" ID Needle roller bearings.

    Some random pics:

For the weight basket there is no space for ball bearings. We will have to use the best needle bearings. I will buy case 60 Thompson linear guide rod with 1/2" diameter to replace the Nautilus shoulder bolt. Its a really fun project making this better than new, but maintaining the chain.

The custom stainless 316, Ball Bearing Martin C19 Sprockets will be shipping this week.

TK working on the leather pads and custom Elbow pad modifications.

Online Metals is a wonderful resource:

Tons and tons of great products... Just picked up 2" x 4" Stainless rectangular tubing for my Atlantis Standing calf mod....

Stainless 316 (Marine grade stainless) is just an amazing material. Similar in weldability and machinability to standard stainless steel (304), however:

    - Far superior corrosion resistance

    - Far higher tensile strength and yield stength: 89,900 psi and 60,200 psi (vs stainless 304: 73,200 tensile, 31,200 psi yield strength)

Stainless 316 is just amazing material.... the best stainless for what we seek.

This Stainless 316 2" x 4" x 0.25" thick is amazing. I will use this to replace the lame, absolutely pathetic choice made by the Atlantis Strength 'erector set', the dreaded foot plate!!

It is understandable to want to save money, but Atlantis can be pathetic when it comes to not using dedicated calf blocks or foot platforms.

If you are curious 7 gauge steel is 0.179" thick

This 316 stainless is 0.25" thick.

3 gauge steel is 0.239" thick...

I don't have a chart for less than 3 gauge, but it is probably 1 gauge... Its quarter inch plate.

    Dear HealthNutMD,

Admittedly Chris, at 60,200psi "yield" strength and a 2" x 4" cross section (with a 1/4" wall thickness - sounds like 'Cross Axes Tech') you are not going to bend that member.

    Sincerely,

The Atlantis Standing calf is a wonderful standing calf machine, if you are willing to remove the garbage foot plate.

Atlantis took the time to make wonderful angled shoulder pads, 2 sets of handles to grab!!, and lots of great design aspects, which is why I bought it...

However, this footplate is inexcusable. The rubber TREAD is horribly uneven. its just a pathetic excuse for a calf block. It does not even feel good to stand on because of the large gaps between the rubber tread.

However, a simple fix is the 24" long 316 stainless 2" x 4" I will use. I will cover the Stainless 316 footplate with the high end rubber grip material mentioned a few times throughout this thread (that I used to cover the Avenger Leg Press foot platform).

I'll just have to remove this footplate and weld on the 316 calf block... after a nice polish. I'll probably leave the outer 1 inch showing (uncovered by rubber grip material) on each side.

Can you explain to me how to use the "delete feature"? Does it pop up on a posts?

    Sincerely,

Once you upload the pic you can click on the pick link right in the upload screen. (You don't have to save your post and then edit although that would work, just some extra steps). The pic should open in a new window. Copy the address for the pick. Add the image tags around the pic address.

    Thank you EricAtl,

Do you mean that the "pick link" does not appear on the actual thread when I first post it (only an "attached image" box) and that I must go outside the actual thread and access the "image address?" from the link to the forum page?

Bear with me, as I'm not sure I know what I'm talking about. At no point in my posts (after placing a post) do I see something like an internet address.

    Sincerely,

    Henry Maag

When you upload the pic on the manage attachments screen you will see this screen:

Under current attachments you can click on the current attachment, in this case, image.jpg. That will open the image in a new window. Copy the link address from the new window. Post that in between the image tags. Img /img

After saving a post or when previewing a post you are writing, point your mouse to the attachment image link. Right-click your mouse to Copy image location. That is the internet address (URL) that you need to past between the img tags.
