Garth Brooks - Kansas City 2008



November 2007

Garth played 7 nights in Kansas City at the newly opened, "Sprint Center."

I believe this show was taken from the 7th and final night of this mini-tour. Garth has a thing for the number 7. He came out of retirement to play 7 sold out nights in Kansas City. His wife, Trisha Yearwood, opened each night.

The engineers obviously wanted a sing-a-long feel for, "We Shall Be Free" and "The River." The only problem is, the people that are closest to the microphones are chatting it up, and they don't sing too well. It's not distracting, but it's something worth noting.

This isn't the full show, it's missing quite a few songs. The GAC network was lucky enough to get this footage, and I thought I'd share it with you guys. Garth gives a tearful message at the end of, "The Dance", he tells the crowd, fighting back the tears, that if they wait for him, he'll be back.

John Conlee - Rose Colored Glasses 1978



Rose Colored Glasses is the debut album by country music artist John Conlee. It was released on ABC Records, and was his only disc for the label; he would move to MCA Records the next year.

The album was a commercial success, peaking just outside the country top 10 (at number 11), and would be his highest charting album until 1983.

It featured 3 singles; the Conlee-written title track reached number 5 in America. The next single, "Lady Lay Down" became a number one in the States, while going to number 2 in Canada. The last single to be released from the record, the Conlee-written "Backside of Thirty" (in 1979) was also an American number 1, while reaching number 5 in Canada. Among these singles, "Backside of Thirty" had originally been released in 1977, but it did not chart at the time.

Kurt Wolff and Orla Duane, in their book Country Music: The Rough Guide, described the album's cuts as "among Conlee's finest, including the title track and especially 'Backside of Thirty'."

Here in most of the US, Patricia Vonne is ironically best known as an actress who’s made frequent appearances in her brother Roberto Rodriguez’s films. But in Europe and her native Texas, she’s a bonafide star. Her latest and fourth cd Worth It should help spread the word to those not already in the know. Her unaffectedly throaty wail soars intensely and passionately over rich, lushly interwoven layers of guitars that often evoke great Australian art-rockers the Church, but with a disquieting, often hallucinatory southwestern edge. This album is a showcase not only for Vonne’s voice but for Robert LaRoche’s terrifically anthemic, vibrant rhythm and lead guitar- he’s sort of a border-rock version of Keith Richards – along with Rick Del Castillo on guitars, Scott Garber on bass, Dony Wynn on drums and cameos from Rosie Flores, Joe Ely and songwriter Darin Murphy.
The title track opens the album, an edgy, swinging backbeat janglerock anthem that lends a sympathetic ear to the tormented visions of a homeless drug addict. It’s something akin to what the early Pretenders might have sounded like if Chrissie Hynde had grown up in Austin rather than Akron. The no-nonsense, blues-tinged Cut from the Same Cloth is a co-write with Flores, a similarly-minded, edgy Tejana. A gothic flamenco rock en Espanol shuffle, Fuente Vaqueros evokes the region in Grenada, Spain where Frederico Garcia Lorca famously first saw the light of day.
Vonne maintains the drama and suspense with Castle Walls, muting the flamenco intensity a little by turning it over to the drums, and then to an incisively bluesy Joe Reyes guitar solo. A new spin on an old myth, El Marinero y La Sirena has Rick Del Castillo’s pointillistic nylon-string guitar mingling hypnotically and eerily with Carl Thiel’s insistent piano. The big concert favorite Love Is a Bounty hitches a swaying country beat and lonesome, bucolic Murphy harmonica to biting, bluesy rock; La Lomita de Santa Cruz, just Vonne’s voice and LaRoche’s reverb-drenched guitar, is a bitter tale of drought and doom.
There’s also a couple of big, terse, tension-driven janglerock anthems along with Cowskulls and Ghosttowns, a blazing Georgia Satellites-style musclecar rocker gone goth, and the wry, cynically amusing backbeat rock anthem Gin and Platonic with her old New York band featuring Kirk Brewster on lead guitar, Scott Yoder on bass and Eddie Zweiback on drums. Yet another great album by one of this era’s finest and most original songwriters in Americana and rock en Espanol.

This is not just another cookie cutter “country-folk” group with songs about drinkin’ and ramblin’. Theodore’s latest attempt takes you on an interesting journey of Alt-Country and folk with even a hint of a North London style brass section; not unlike some sounds you would find on The Kinks greatness of a record “Muswell Hillbillies”, which in case you didn’t know, Muswell Hill resides in Northern London. There! Who says you don’t learn something everyday?

With droning, eerie harmonica wailings and a full album with lyrics of lies and desperation, it is a record that strangely comforts you, at least for 33 minutes, on the notion that you might not ever find that feeling of home; she might never come back to you; everything will not always be alright… But right now it is.

They are in CD+G format however Ive included my professional desktop player software and serial, along with a CD+G converter to video (with serial).
