    Opinions on this bench?

    http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/spo/1978562393.html

It looks like an older Powertec bench, I don't know anything about those. Is this comparable to the newer ones, should I bother?

Yes, trying to work it out. So this is a good buy compared to e.g. PFID130X for $140 new?

Maximum weight capacity including user: 400 lbs.

    http://www.ironcompany.com/flatincli...dpfid130x.aspx

The Powertec bench looks like it would only be good for situps and maybe dumbell exercises. I don't think I would buy either of these. When looking at benches I want something rated for at least 600lbs. Now if you are a beginner I think you will be okay for a little while with the Powerline, but as soon as you can bench 200 lbs it would be time to start looking for a new bench.

Thanks, thats the 1st place I've seen the weight limit of the Powerline benches listed - the bodysolid site (http://www.bodysolid.com/Home/item.cfm?id=809) and Amazon don't list it. So that's out.

I'm now looking at either the Powertech workbench, or Bodysolid GFID225 - once again its max weight is not listed on their site.

If your going to buy a new bench I've got the ironmaster superbench and love it.

However, I still think the craigslist bench is decent if you get it for the right price. Jimbo is right about the weight rating but for the right price it can be your backup bench or dumbbell bench. Doesnt hurt to have 2

No problem, in that price range there is also this Hoist bench that is rated for 800lbs. It looks a little weird but I think it would make a good bench.

I'm not sure what that BS bench is rated for either, its a bench that folds up for storage so I am guessing its not terribly high. The Ptec utility bench is pretty popular, and is rated at 600lbs.

No it doesn't, I have the old Ironmaster as my 2nd bench and have thought about selling it before, but I just like knowing its there if I need it, lol.

I can't really afford 2 benches (due to space and $$), and on CL its hard to find anything that's good quality and not a rack type bench.

I looked at that Hoist, and also the Trion (http://www.amazon.com/TRION-Fitness-...dp/B001M1YLZ6/) which is only 400lb. I was trying to keep it close to $100 but there's nothing good (new) in that range. I called BS to ask them about weight rating but couldn't reach anyone. The Powertec is $250 which is more than I want to spend.

I weigh ~180 and I'm a beginner so any bench will do really. I've even considered just getting a $50 bench from Walmart and using it for a few months while I keep an eye out for a good used deal, it may end up saving me money in the end!
