Two completely different workout types for two different goals.

A "bodybuilding workout" is designed to build muscle mass/size. Some decent strength will go along with that. You will perform exercises by moving though a specific ROM/plane against a scaleable resistance while progressively increasing said resistance to achieve progressive overload and progess.

A crossfit workout is more about muscular and cardiovascular endurance. You will be attempting to completely as many reps as possible in a certain amount of time, often with bodyweight or with a fixed weight, and you 'progress' by getting more. Or you do a specified number of reps at a specified weight (or bodyweight) and 'progress' by decreasing the amount of time required to finish.

Seems most of them make this progression by learning how to compromise form. A couple crossfit kids come to my gym and have gotten incredibly adept at the kipping pullups + 5 inch dip + micro ROM hand stand pushup routine.

To be fair, a lot of Xfitters are very fit people. They have great cardio, decent glycolytic conditioning and okayish strength. I don't agree with a lot of the program, but it does turn people into fit people.

That being said, their goals are different than someone on BB.com whose primary goal is usually muscle mass or pure strength. Xfit doesn't give you that.

    Crossfit

I am a CrossFit instructor and CrossFit is different from bodybuilding in a few ways. Body building gives you weight gain and muscle mass that has a very short usage period. usually no more than a few reps max then a rest period. CrossFit gives you less rapid mass gains but ensures that whatever muscle mass you do gain is totally useable for a MUCH longer time. I have many body builders that have converted to the CrossFit workout programs, they still do the body building some for just their own personal satisfaction, but they will tell you quickly that they get way more out of a 30 min WOD than any 2 hour workout they have ever done and they stay leaner and harder from it. CrossFit is everything in a fitness center rolled into one class. Could go on and on about this but I think every body builder should try and do a crossfit and judge for themselves. would make them mush better athletes. what good is a ton of muscle if it only has a usage of 20 seconds then you need a few min to recoup? Life doesn't give you breaks. In my opinion it's pointless except it looks good in a t-shirt. LOL.

Crossfit is more faddy than anything. It has it's merits, but it has become to weight training what Zumba has become to ballroom dancing.

CrossFit created to focus on working across domains. I think combination of CrossFit and bodybuilding is more beneficial than doing individually.

Crossfit does have it's place at times. If I'm cutting, I'll do a semi-crossfit type of circuit. But I'm also not into injuring myself by doing a ton of these Olympic lifts that they do in rapid concession with poor form at times. A kettle bell and bar works for me when I'm in the mood.

Actually I find that the people who are most experienced are the ones that blather on about it the least regardless of what training style they pursue. But there are probably more old lifters than old crossfitters.

A friend of my wifes recently picked up a serious back injury from crossfit, it just seems inevitable given how they train. Sad for a young woman in her prime.
