Hey all brand new to posting so im hoping this is a good section to post this in.
So theres this small chain of supplement stores in the STL area called "Supplement Superstores" which i go to to buy everything i dont get from this site, and they always push this whey protein called "Phormula 1." Of course i bought it cuz i was willing to try it out, but i was also wondering if they were just trying to push it hard because 1st Phorm (the company that makes this) is located in STL as well
Heres my take:
ABSOLUTE BEST TASTING protein ive ever had
from what ive researched is basically just a post-workout recovery shake?
solid gains (my most recent creatine+phormula cycle i gained 7 lbs in about 45 days*)
pretty light in the stomach-im able to eat a good post-workout meal along with 2 scoops of this
definitely on the expensive side ($42 per tub-finished it off in about a month)
now it claims to be a "Ultra Bioavailable Rapid Assimilation Isolate Protein Formula" which im guessing means it gets digested/absorbed fast...can anyone clear this up?
One serving contains about 23g of protein and 5 grams of BCAAs
anyone else have experience with this product? or generally any thoughts on the effectiveness of strictly post-workout proteins vs. your average whey protein?
**this is my first weight gain push since ACL/meniscus reconstruction during which i lost about 10 pounds. so this big weight jump may just be similair to that of beginner gains

Yep just went to supplement superstores in west county and they pushed the phormula 1 on me. Tried the watermelon in the store and it was amazing. (The nutritionist who helped me had his own bottle behind the counter for himself, offered me a shot).
Picked up the fruit punch along with the ignition powder so we'll see.

I also just bought the ignition and phormula protein, Also at supplement superstore in stl, also after an acl reconstruction. weird. The guy pushed it really hard and just happened to have his own in the back like previously mentioned. I was going there to try Vitargo and he sold me on the ignition. I figured they just push this particular brand for commissions and what not but it was cheaper so i bought it. The protein though i also bought but probably won't again unless i see a huge difference as it was pretty expensive. He told me that whey when manufactured while cold is way more absorbable than whey that isn't. (more or less) I had never heard any of this before so if anyone could shed light on this.
Thanks

I have used the phormula-1 and ignition combo before. It is a good, high quality protein but IMO overpriced. If you have the money then you certainly won't hurt yourself by taking it, but I think there are more cost-effective products out there.
I think the guys at S2 really push that stuff because they get a better commission off of it and also there are probably some ties between S2 and 1st phorm (This is just speculation of course). I kinda hate how they push it so hard and I think they can sometimes mislead people who don't know much into thinking that the 1st phorm stuff is all that works. S2 is nice because they have low prices and you don't have to wait for stuff to ship to you, but just go in informed and take everything the "nutrition specialists" (salesmen) tell you with a handful of salt.

I am on my third tub of it and I like it. It is a nice change from the typical chocolate or vanilla flavored protein. The trick to this stuff, which I didn't know until I bought the current tub I am consuming, is that you only need one scoop versus the typical two scoops of other protein. Since this is cold temperature processed (not heated or baked to dry the powder before packaging) it retains most, if not all, of the protein from the manufacturing process. Since each tub has 32 scoops, and it is 45 per tub, it equals out to about the same, if not cheaper than most of the bulk five pound tubs that most stores sell which are around 70 scoops, where you have to typically use two scoops. If you think about it mathematically: if you work out 4-5 days a week and DON'T take protein on your off day (or take a casein or something other than the Phormula1) the tub will last you 6-8 weeks. I unfortunately found this out on my third tub after I had been doing the two scoops and wondering why I was paying so much for it. Whether you're looking to cut some fat or even build muscle, I would also use the Ignition post workout carb source. It is specially formulated to digest at the same rate as the protein so it doesn't jack with your metabolism. I used to have the old two scoops of protein with 30 gummy bears, and I noticed a considerable difference switching to this stuff. I felt refreshed and not as broken down about 30 minutes after my workout, even though it was a brutal back and bi day. My last few thoughts: I would also take the 1st Phorm creatine with it as well. Not sure if you've taken it before, but I'm a big advocate of the stuff, again especially if you're in a cutting phase because it will help you retain muscle so your body doesn't break it down for energy. I am in no way a representative of Supplement Superstores, 1st Phorm, or any other affiliate who sells these products. I am a broke college student who appreciates getting a good deal.

Finally, a thread about Phormula-1. I've been looking around, visiting from sites to sites, to learn more about this product. I've been planning to use this myself but I want to determine first if it's effective as they claim. A lot of those sites kept sugar coating the product's description, although, there is one which caught my attention. I've already this one http://www.1stphormreviews.org/phormula-1/ but I'm not quite sure if all the contents are true. What is your opinion about this? Your thoughts would definitely be helpful. Hope you hear this poor soul's call.

It is a GREAT product, everything from taste to macros, however, it is way over-priced and you are better off going with any other regular whey off of BB.com's store. Pretty sure they charge ~$47 for a 2 pound tub. Best tasting protein for sure though, the cinnamon toast crunch is to die for.

I wouldn't use it just because I hate Supplement Superstores. They pushed so much bs on me when I was new to supplements and I feel like they take advantage of people who aren't very well versed in supplements to buy their 1st Phorm stuff. It's all very fishy.
I had a salesman tell me ON Gold Standard was garbage compared to their stuff, that Orange Triad isn't a good enough multi, that Dynamtize ISO-100 is reformed and full of nitrogen spikes for protein content, all kinds of other garbage.
I recommend buying from a company that doesn't require bashing other companies to sell you their product, especially when they carry said companies in their stores.

The reason they push 1st Phorm is the owner of S2 also owns 1st Phorm. Im sure he uses a friends name to keep it seperate but its his company. Im not saying the products are good or bad... I use some of them and they seem to work... If you look at when the current owner took over S2 as a failing company 1st Phorm
Popped up just after he took over...
I think he just started a new one, carbon fire, as they have a new version of the commander go pack or whatever they call it now and they are pushing it pretty hard. It looks exactly the same only differant colors.
Also dont let the "you can try some of mine" line fool you... Thats a sales gimick to let you try some of their products... Its not that guys personal stuff... They have open containers in the back of most 1st Phorm products... Its just a way to make you feel special...

Strong bump.
Yeah, thats why I buy here and not there. The salespeople are so obnoxious there (granted one person at the local one is cool, ive taked to him but still). The people may be smarter than at GNC but theyre almost as pushy and annoying so I dont give them my business. Everytime I have gone in, I just leave with an unpleasant taste in my mouth(no homo). I just dont like it there.. One time I went kn there, one of the salespeople was chittalking Dymatize and Allmax. So that speaks for itself.
On top of the hat the protein is very overpriced and not at all worth it.Last edited by Bloats; 01-08-2016 at 06:20 PM.

I admit, I have bought into the cold processed story of the 1st Phorm stuff and have tried both the Phormula-1 (fast acting) and the Level-1 (slow acting). I admit it does taste good, but it is spendy to put it lightly! I am a bit put off by the sales guys there as I go in there acting pretty naive and they are all about slamming any other protein out there.... Even the ON protein which amazes me. IMHO, that is some of the best stuff on the market.
Now, all that said, anybody smarter than me know anything to support the fast acting / slow acting theory? Granted, what I would really like to see is a heads up comparison between ON whey and the phorm-1. I would have a hard time being convinced that 1st Phorm is much better but would love to see the data!

If taking it for immediately post workout, the faster absorbing protein powder would be preferable. Same if you wish to pound a shake preworkout. Even whey isolate takes about an hour to fully digest.
If you're just using protein powder to meet macros at different times of the day, it doesn't really matter if you're using Phormula-1 or Gold Standard tbh.Completed Logs & Reviews:
