Whenever I try to squat, I fall back?

I cannot squat with proper form. I've tried, and when I do, I fall back. I've had so many experienced lifters try to teach me in person, I just can't. The only time I CAN squat is when I hold onto something. I also have very tight hamstrings, but I don't know if this is a flexibility problem. The only way I can squat without falling back is leaning forward, much more forward, but then my back isn't straight.
Are there any exercises I can do? Does anyone else have this? I can't even squat my own weight. I'm 6'3 and 190 pounds.

When I said I can't squat my own weight, I mean, I cannot squat my own weight...As in, I'm not using any weights...I can't squat myself.

Leg press for a while. Do it with half ur body weight and do PLENTY of biking on HIIT..

Should get your legs somewhere, at least.

Squat again in 2-3 months. Don't bust your nuts if you're not getting anywhere, find alternatives. That's the beauty of this sport.

Not to be a dick but you can squat you are just telling yourself you cant. Stop with the crappy attitude. Put weight on the bar and squat, overtime your form will improve as your body adapts.

I would suggest you try ball squats. Just place a stability ball on a wall and gently lean back against it so you can have support when you squat. It will help prepare you to do real squats.

your form is just off, i doubt its a flexibility issue. ive helped a lot of people who had a similar problem and they too said they could keep their back straight and lean forward, but after helping them a little bit they realized they can

im not sure why, but the whole keeping your back straight and squatting isnt a movement that people can easily do. stick your butt out like a pornstar, head up, gripping bar as hard as you can and press it into your back, and squat down keeping that ass out. bring your feet in closer if continually have trouble, that may help, wide stances tend to bring flexibility into the issue more

No, I'm serious. My dad and grandpa both can't squat either. I CAN'T without falling back. I've even had a coach at my school try to teach me, she said I couldn't either. I HAVE to hold onto something when I do it.

Do you have a back problem? Like a serious, diagnosed issue with a name you couldn't pronounce unless a doctor said it first? No? Then you can squat, you just need to work harder at it. Get flexible, work on the form, get the strength. If you physically can not squat, you have bigger issues to worry about then exercising. Like how much longer you'll be able to walk or stay alive.

yerh i had similar problems when i first started squating and i hated it, now im squating and loving it. start off doing some ball squats to get use to the movement, then hold a weight plate and squat. squat with just the bar, i find it harder to body squat then to squat with weight. the weight helped me keep good form and posture. also if you have a smith machine if your gym try starting out your squating on this. this will help you get use to the movement. soo...

    1) wall ball squats then move on to weighted ones
    2) squat with just the bar
    3) try using a smith machine to start you off
    4) leg presses (go down low and stretch the legs out)

my friend had the exact problem , just practice squats while holding a plate and you should be able to do it without it. once you can squat your body you will be ready for the bar.

it's a flexability problem man. you need to stretch a lot and i mean a lot. generally that problem comes from bad hips so running would also help. another thing you need to do is get used to the position so start by squating down as low as you can and i mean low and hold it (even if you have to hold on to something). work your way up to being able to do this with some weight on your back. if you follow that i guarantee you'll be fine

You just need to keep stretching more. It's worth it, not just to squat but for everything else you do in life.

i'm seriously hoping you're a troll because if you're serious i feel sorry for you. srs. if you can't even squat without any weights you're seriously lacking in the strength/coordination areas

    you're supposed to lean forward.

"straight back" means you don't let your back round, not you squat upright. that's impossible.

My mom had the same problem when I first started training her...im pretty sure its a balance issue (possibly due to a weak core).

Get a 2x4 or a 10lb weight (or something similar) to keep under your heels while you squat. You will be able to do it then, and before you know it, when you take away the weight under your heel you'll be able to squat normal.

After a few weeks my mom was squatting with excellent form and nothing under her heel, give it a shot and post back with results.

Below is a pic of what I explained in case it was to confusing.

    Stop with the bull****!!!!

if you have 'had coaches teach you correct form'

there is no 'flexibility issue' as you can obviously stretch far enough to get into that form

the ONLY way your falling over everytime with GOOD FORM (which you obviously do not use) is if you've managed to shift the centre of gravity so it pulls you over......

yes being stupid, of course you didnt do that, so learn how to squat.

    good day.
I havnt updated my lifting stats for a very long time.
