    Squats vs box squats

Do box squats work your legs as efficiently as regular squats?

I've been doing regular squats but i'm considering doing box squats because i can lift more weight with them.

How deep are you squatting? Box squatting?

    How much weight?

I'll bet you aren't going as deep when using the box

So you are considering switching to/emphasizing the box squats becasue you can move more weight if you don't go to parallel. I think that answers your question pretty well.

You have no business switching to box squats.

A solid novice program with plenty of squatting, food and rest is what you need

If your goal right now is to lose a lot of bodyfat and be scrawny don't expect a lot of strength increase during that time.

If you want to get big and strong you want to bulk.

If you want to get thin you want to cut.

Generally unless you are fairly overweight/fat it is a better idea to work on developing a strength/muscle base before cutting down so that there is something there worth seeing.

It is up to you. If you stick with this and are concerned with aesthetics you will probably end up doing both, multiple times.

I would probably eat at maintenance or ever so slightly above (say 1/4-1/2 pound gain a week) with plenty of protein.

500 calories over maintainence is stupid.

if you are gaining 1lb a week and are not a raw beginner, you are just getting fat.

Why can't a beginner use box squats? Box squats are a good way to teach hip drive during the squat and allow someone to feel more comfortable with the squat as they are learning proper mechanics.

As for the OP, why not include both? Either way, there are certainly bigger things to worry about that will affect your progress more than whether or not to squat using a box. Whatever you decide to do, progression should be your main focus.

    What is your current routine?

    Is strength/performance your primary goal?

If you do SS you will want to eat over maintenence.

Since you posted a split and called it a routine/workout I am going to say, yes, do SS instead.
