you make the widen the cylinder walls for the pistons bigger than the engine was originally meant for.

it means to increase the size of the cylinder so you get more cubic inches of displacement. commonly if you have a motor rebuilt they will bore it .030 over stock but in high performance applications you can go bigger. the boring process also removes any scratches/ scars/ defects from the cylinder wall so the rings will form a better seal and loss of compression or oil consumption wont be a problem. rep me
I would wager that most people who get this done cut corners and end up with an engine that blows soon after.
