What exactly does it mean to "bore out" an engine?

    Huh?
    Evidence.

Bored out means the cylinder becomes wider in diameter, but the cylinder walls become thinner.

Stroked means that the crankshaft is changed so that the piston travels further within the cylinder.

Basically shove a drill bit in it and drill the cylinder wall out so you can use a bigger piston

the larger the volume of the cylinders the more power you can potentially make, so by boring (or making larger) you can increase the size of the engine.

you make the widen the cylinder walls for the pistons bigger than the engine was originally meant for.

it means to increase the size of the cylinder so you get more cubic inches of displacement. commonly if you have a motor rebuilt they will bore it .030 over stock but in high performance applications you can go bigger. the boring process also removes any scratches/ scars/ defects from the cylinder wall so the rings will form a better seal and loss of compression or oil consumption wont be a problem. rep me

depends entirely on the engine. some engines can't handle it and some engines are almost like they were designed to be bored.
