Sometimes when I eat chicken breast, there is a part that taste weird. I cant really describe it or pick the right word, maybe gamey or fishy? Anyone know what the fuk this is cause it makes me yak. Reps to the first person who can help me out

How do you prepare it?

I grill mine almost 100% of the time and I've never come across anything remotely like this.

I think i kno what u talkin about. Is it like the bloody taste sort of? I recently researched and found better ways to prepare chicken breast. Most people soak it in salt water for couple hours, adds flavor, and rids of that dirty taste. Just grilled some up today and no game taste at all. It also depends where you get the chicken from. I usually notice that asian markets type chicken is no good and has that fishy taste so i stear clear and stay with safeway, luckys type chicken breast.

It's either picking up funky odors in your fridge or it's not being thawed out properly and gets cooked partially frozen. Or it could possibly be a little bit undercooked?

WTF? It's not gamey. Chicken doesen't become gamey like deer or another large animal would. Never had chicken tasting anything like fish.

If it's undercooked or bloody in any way, you have a problem and aren't cooking it right.

Really should figure out what it is though as you don't want to come down with salmonella. I eat tons of chicken and I have no clue what you are talking about.

Use a meat thermometre next time you cook it.

I know just what you're talking about when you call the occasional chicken breast gamey. There are a few reasons for chicken breast to taste more flavorful than its usual bland self, and the word gamey is 100% correct, as it has been common english usage for an off tasting meat for centuries in the US, and that goes for chicken as well. You will get hunter types complaining that chicken is not a game animal and can never taste gamey, but they are being too strick with the definition of the word. It's been used on chicken for longer than any of their lives. Just ask my Grandmother.

Game birds were hung and aged for flavor in the distant past, so old chicken that has been sterilized and had the possible botulism toxin contamination removed by cooking at high temperatures can get a "gamey" flavor, where "gamey" is rotten in this case. I've had this type of chicken and I don't mind the taste. Another type of "gamey" chicken I've had was chicken that had been fed a questionable diet and not had the body fat removed from the breast. The fat can change the flavor of chicken breast. A third way it can taste "gamey" is if it is cooked with some spices you don't like, since "gamey" is often used to describe any bad tasting meat, and is used correctly in all of these contexts since there are any number of ways to make meat taste strong. I've even heard that elderly chickens taste stronger than young ones. If you want to avoid the gamey taste, try getting your chicken from a fresher source (perhaps your supermarket is leaving some chicken out in the heat once in a while), always trim as much fat from the breast as possible, and defrost chicken at refridgerator temperatures so it doesn't have time to rot at all. Sometimes getting the blood out of it by soaking it in water might help a little. Make sure it's cold water.

Personally, the gamier, the better, for me. As long as it isn't from excessive chicken fat being burnt during cooking. That taste is too horrible to bare.

One more thing ... my wife and I have both eaten fresh, raw, chicken breast. The cook got the raw mixed up with the cooked food and served it to us. before we knew what had happened we had mouths full of raw chicken, and it wasn't very gamey, so I doubt rawness is the issue here. That might vary with some other factors, but in our case, raw chicken wasn't very strong in taste.
