Browning Buck Mark Camper
Thinking about getting my first gun. Anyone have opinions for or against the Browning Buck Mark Camper? I have almost zero firearm experience so I want to start with a cheap and easy to use .22.

A friend of mine has one and so far it has been very reliable and accurate. Also check into Ruger Mk2.

Either the Browning or Ruger are great 22lr pistols. I wouldn't recommend anything else.
I really like 22lr revolvers as its never an issue what you feed them.
If you can try both of em out before you buy. This type of pistol is something you'll prolly hold on to forever, get the one that fits you best.

The buckmark is easier to maintain than the MKII ruger. I've had both in the past. Function and accuracy is nearly identical but takedown and reassembly of the mkII requires one to hold one's tongue properly.

Yeah, isn't there a verbal key to those? Utter the proper string of profanities and it'll come apart like you want?

I've never had to clean a Ruger as I have only shot other peoples. Good to know.
I sure like the trigger on the Ruger though, so shweeet!
My favorite 22lr handgun BY FAR is the Ruger Single Six.

I know a .22 is far from being an effective home defense round, but I expect it will be some time before I am comfortable enough with the .22 (and also have enough money to afford) to upgrade. That being said how would a .22 fare against a human traget? I realize a .22 to the brain is going to do pretty much the same as a .50 to the brain, but would a .22 be enough to injure someone by hitting them in a non vital area (limbs, stomach, etc)? Basically what I'm saying is... if I'm ever in the awful situation of having to defend myself by force (which I hope I never am) is it even worth using the .22?

I can tell you that even the mild 22 short will go right through a persons foot

a .22 is much better than a sharp stick or your fists. wouldn't be ideal, but a .22 has killed plenty of people.
and on topic:
i'd rather have the buckmark. I've only shot 2, one was a really old POS, the other was newer. the new one had a few thousand through it and shot great, the older one was waaaaay past its prime so i can't hate on it too much. I like the ruger Mk series a lot, I haven't taken one down but i've been in the presence of people doing so after a range session and it looks to be a total PITA.

Lots of assassinations through the years by the Mossad and the mob alike using the 22lr.
that being said it is not for home defense.
The person may die, but not fast enough to stop from killing you.

I've read about the .22 being favored by assasins, supposedly a .22 bounces around the skull and turns your brain into mashed potatoes, silenced its incredibly quiet as wwell supposedly.

I've been shooting my dads Ruger Mk2 for the past 30 years and its a great gun. No complaints and the gun was bought in the early 1960's.

There is indeed. I kept forgetting the one for mine so it often took many tries before I got it right.
