How many calories in sweet potatoes??

    http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/...roducts/2667/2

That site says 200 grams has 180 calories, but it sorta looks like that is cooked. I have a sweet potato about 6x3 inches and weighed it and it's a little over a pound (480 grams), so by that logic this one potato has over 400 calories in it, which I find hard to believe considering a regular potato of about this size would have 200 calories or less .... ???

Are sweet potatoes super high compared to russet? A decent sized russet is only 100 caloriesish.

If you want to be the 'most anal' about *accurate* calorie counting - then weigh raw and use that as your calculation figure/ recorded figure.

Cooking (depending on time/ method) will alter water weight differently - so you end up with a different 'perceived' weight, when all you have really done is dehydrate the food.

Classic example is steak - >
    raw
    vs medium
    vs well cooked
    ^
you could start with 6 oz raw
Cooked raw and you get 5.5 oz
medium end up with 5 oz
well done end up with 4 oz
All have the SAME calories at the end of the day (as the only real difference is water loss) -> but if you enter 'steak, cooked' into a calorie counter you only get a single figure - so you could be over/ under estimating your cals.

Sure - for a single item it isn't *that* much, but over time it can count.
