Sprained ankle month ago...still hurts (srs)

I sprained my ankle badly playing bball over a month ago. It hurt really badly for about 2-3 weeks then the pain, bruising, and swelling went down significantly. I still feel pain going up and down stairs and when running.

Should I go see a doctor? I had a similar sprain back in high school but this was way worse.

I sprained mine in March playing tennis. I was told it wasn't a serious sprain.

It still hurts to this day if I run or an too active with it. When I run up/down stairs I feel it hurt a little, and if I stretch it out (point my toes away from me) as far as I can, I can feel slight pain.

Everyone keeps saying it will get better, but it never seems to :\

In your case, only a month out, you're going to feel pain. It generally takes 3-4 months to fully recover.

Also, remember that when you sprain it once, you're more susceptible to spraining it again. So wear a brace when you play ball again.

I would suggest you get it checked out. I once sprained my ankle playing basketball and it hurt for almost a year. Now when I rotate it all you can here is bone grinding on bone. Learn from me. Don't be a tough guy, get it checked out.

wow didn't even see that you haven't been to a doc.

when I sprained mine, I went straight to the ER. Might not have been the best move, since it wasn't serious, but I was able to get xrays done right then and there instead of waiting days for an appointment. Also was given pain meds.

Definitely go to a doc ASAP. If you're athletic, leaving a sprained ankle unchecked will kill your activity in the future. If you torn a tendon, you need to have it checked out.

I sprained my ankle playing basketball as well. Landed with my toe down, on someones foot after a jump shot. Broke my foot, and had a terrible sprain. It took me like 9 months for it to feel "right". It will never be 100% though.

    BUMP

Went to the doctor yesterday and they saw nothing on the xray just ligament damage. They want to follow up with a CT scan though to get a better view of possible fractures. I'm not sure if I want to do this though because my insurance sucks. Don't know how much they will cover. I don't have my plan information in front of me so I have to call them on Monday morning.

    What do you guys think?

I had a slight ligament tear in my ankle after it got turned the wrong wrong way and I heard a snap. Nothing they can do unless its a huge tear that would require surgery. Just a matter of time. Took over 1 year to feel normal. After 2-3 years its 100%. I had physical therapy for 3 weeks which kindof helped.

Yeah I was thinking of hitting up a massage therapist that is close to my home. I almost just want to wait it out even though I really want to get back to bball and running.
