    Putting mass on obliques and waist

    Will putting mass on your obliques make your waist LOOK bigger?

    Of course it will make your waist wider if you measured all the way around, but if you are just looking at your waist from the front won't it look the same distance from side to side? Isn't that all that matters?

    Obliques are disgusting. They ruin a v taper and look gross. The obliques you see on fitness models that look good are there just from working everything else, people who isolate obliques a lot look terrible imo, giant growths on their hips, disgusting. Everyone has obliques if they are at a low enough bodyfat, just like abs, even deadlifts can make them huge on some people.

    Since when did obliques make your hips bigger? They only overlap the very top of your hips.

    And no. I don't have obliques at all. My sides literally go in. When I lay down my abs stick out and it just dips down and its just my hip bones.

    Treat it like every other muscle group, go heavy and don't try to do hundreds of reps. I see tons of people doing side-bends with a 45 pound plate, UP THE WEIGHT! I can do them with 100-110 pound dumbbells now for sets of 8-12. It sure as hell helped my grip too, and feels a lot easier when I go to pick up those heavy dumbbells for a set of dumbbell presses/bent over rows/etc. Make sure to hit your abs from every angle, as well as with some sort of twisting motion.

    What if I do hanging leg raises and then some kind of twisting motion? Is that enough for my core?

    Your question has been answered about 7 times, stop bumping this thread, oblique work diminishes the v-taper. Some people have good oblique/lat genetics that it works for them while others do not. Most people prefer not to since unless you are sub-10% you can't even see your obliques which is the reason for the "blocky" waist.

    The point is I have a small waist and big hips. I don't want a blocky waist but do you think working on my obliques to an extent will help "even out" my body? My hips stick out and my waist goes way in and then my lats go out. So it makes this shape and looks like ****.
