    i want to lose 40lbs, what kind of cardio and weights should i use?

    determine how many calories you need in a week or day
    be in calorie deficit
    lift heavy weights focus on compound movements
    if you like to do cardio its ok
    rest

    Weight loss is about what you eat. You can exercise until you turn blue in the face and fall over but if you're eating too much you won't lose.

    Start with the sticky post on calories and macros and figure out what you need to be eating to lose weight.

    AFter that read the sticky post on training and developing/finding a program.

    Those two things are what you need to lose weight.

    ^^^This! You gotta figure out your calorie needs. When I first started my weight loss journey I thought that exercise was the answer. It did help a bit. I lost like 5 pounds in 3 months and then stalled and couldn't figure out what was up. Then I started researching and found out that I needed to count my calories to see what I was consuming, and I was consuming way too much food. So with exercise and calorie counting I lost 70 pounds. Keep a food journal. I have been doing this for 1.5 yrs now and it helps me so much. Good luck.
