I don't know if this answers the original question, but I think differently about my clothes, and dress differently now than I did 20 years ago.
Then:
Suits, suspenders, ties to work. I had anywhere from 15-20 suits, ties, silk suspenders and shirts galore.
My casual clothes were pretty nonexistent as far as stylish or fashionable. Off work time I wore a lot of t shirts and jeans.
Now:
Rarely wear a suit and tie. In fact I only have two suits. I have a few sportcoats... camel hair, tweeds, navy blazer. My slacks consist of woven, wool and blends, and Dockers type. Shirts are primarily collared or polos. I have tees and pullovers, but I really now prefer to limit usage of them.
Whereas I was uptight tight-ass corporate back then, I'm business casual now."Go home, have a beer and smash something. That's what I would do" - Unknown (but probably Thor).

same here, just t-shirt and sneakers and cargo pants. I do have full dress somewhere in my closet, can't remember when did I have to wear it tho.
I cought myself thinking once, while walking trough downtown area, that I probably make twice as much as most any slick looking office workers. Maybe there is a reason for someone to want to look better, like lack of recognition or maybe its just code of conduct - I am lucky to be free from all that.

YOU BET!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Seriously, when I was a fat slob, I wore whatever I could find and wore them until they fell apart. I hated shopping for clothes. H M Hyman and other big shops were where I shopped.
As an example, until 2 1/2 years ago, I hadn't wore a pair of jeans since about 1960. I was 10 and well on my way to becoming huge. I felt jeans made me look even bigger, so I refused to even try them on, until the spring of 05.
True friggin story and that's only the tip of the iceberg.

Jeans and t shirt every day for me. In the summer: cargo shorts and t shirt. In warmer weather I can often spotted wearing a tank top this is because I have a furnace burning inside of me. In winter I am the guy who everyone says "aren't you cold?" because I am still only wearing a t shirt while others seem to be dressed for arctic conditions.

I was a punk rock kid into my 20's so I had lots of crazy, homemade (ripped up, painted, etc) clothes. I still wear funny/weird ringer type t-shirts. I have more classy nice clothes now. I also wear more typical Target/ JC Penny /Brand-name type shorts, kicks, t-shirt ...Used to wear baggy cut off jeans, Chuck Taylors & Rock N Roll t-shirts in the Summer

I used to try to get better looking stuff to wear, I enjoy looking better in what I wear now.
I dont mind my cloths being a bit tighter than they used to be either. I have to dress business casual at work but I am a jeans guy at home. Sometimes for certain meetings a suit is required.
I need to get my old suits refitted though, the pants hang off of me now and the jackets are getting snug in the chest and shoulders.

I actually enjoy wearing nice clothes now that I have some meat on my bones. I'm finally in a sweet spot (32" waist, lg size shirts, etc.) where it's very easy to find clothes that fit me.
20 years ago I was such a damn skinny punk it was next to impossible to find anything decent to wear. I was still picking up shirts from the kids clothing section when I was senior in high-school --that sucked!

business-casual at work is required, khaki's, button downs and what not. Most of the time out of work I am either at the fields coaching, doing clinics, or on my way to the one of the above so I am usually in athletic gear.
For 22 yrs of my life I wore a uniform every day, it was a real culture shock to have to learn to dress differently and figure out what fits right.
I have to get my pants throught the youth line via internet most of the time, 30 inch waist with 27 inch inseam are hard to come by and choices are limited. Odd thing to have to find youth pants and then go the mens department for large shirts.MILITARY RETIRED

I'm a girl, I love dressing up....I've always cared about my clothes, although there was a time in high school (during my metal head days) that I only wore concert t-shirt, black tights and black boots!!!!

I definitely dress better than I did 20 years ago. here is what happened, After I worked out for a while I had to replace everything I owned because it didn't fit anymore, I mean everything but my socks, My old underwear was funny, I can't even believe my ass was so huge it filled those up. My wife held up old and new together and she said that your underwear looks like boys underwear, made me feel good. Well I have always liked POLO by Ralph Loren, I like how they fit and they last a long time, So I started buying them and now I have around 32 or so POLO shirts. I guess it is because I couldn't afford them when I was younger. For me part of gettng in shape is being able to look nice.
You have a great day!
