Do you guys go to the gym sick?

I feel like I'm f'n dying. Got a 103.8 temp and my lymph nodes are so swollen it looks like I'm a cancer patient

Been sick for the past 3 days, havn't done anything but sit around and eat and sleep...its like I'm using the fact I'm sick to validate turning my diet into crap lol. I haven't had ANYTHING from McDonalds in 3 years and the past 3 days I've been putting down some 20 piece nuggets.

Anyway do you guys do any kind of exercises or still go to the gym when you're sick? Or just lay around and recover fully then tear it up?

DONT do not go to the gym sick

you will get more sick and infect those around you

btw if you are sick you shouldnt be eating fried foods and DEF should not be eating mcdonalds.

edit: you are ok to go to the sauna and sweat it out if youd like but i wouldnt recommend it. when you get out of that room you are going to freeze your ass off and possibly get more sick.

i've recently just had the flu and stopped lifting for a few days, i got sick of not doing anything so i went to the gym and my symptoms literally dissapeared while i was lifting. ie no headache, no blocked nose, no flemmy throat etc
and as soon as i sat down and started to relax all the symptoms would return

went to to the gym the next day and the same thing happened and the day after that i was pretty much back to normal!

That's probably because your body was using it's energy for the lifts, instead of fighting the disease (symptoms are typically your body's way of fighting disease, not the disease itself).

To the OP: I would recommend holding off on the gym so your body can use all your energy to fight it off. And keep those nutrients and fluids going.

Negative ghost rider. I'm starting to get a cold as we speak so I'm getting prepared to skip out, do some sun tanning and eat copious amounts of food to keep my weight up. Skip it so you can recover faster and not infect your comrades. Besides, a break from the gym is good for muscle recovery (inb4broscience).

No. I don't train even if I have a cold. Keep your germs to yourself.

Not with a fever of 104! When I have a fever of over 100, I get dizzy just walking, let alone trying to do some exercise.

That's some serious bid-ness, the fever. OP: Get to the doctor.

Just take rest man, there's no point going to the gym when your sick.. You won't be able to get an effective workout and instead of you been fully recovered in a few days, it will take a lot longer to recover, meaning you won't be able to train properly for even longer.

There's a chance you will be infecting others in the gym too if that bothers you, personally I'd just think about your own health though and look at it from that POV.

You can workout with a 'cold'. But a fever of 103 is NOT a cold... and you do NOT want to be at a gym like that. 103 is a sign you need to see a doctor ASAP.

    Read this:
    http://www.t-nation.com/free_online_...01180301.hydra

What I feel is important from the article:
Important Rules For Training When Sick

While strength training can be very beneficial when you have a cold, training with some serious flu symptoms such as impaired breathing can be a mistake. If that?s the case, forget about training. A few years ago, I caught the flu and made the mistake of continuing to train hard, regardless. As a result, the flu eventually became pneumonia and went on to become very serious. One of my lungs got completely filled up with bacteria and breathing became so impaired that walking up a flight of stairs took serious effort.

However, this doesn't mean you should sit around like a couch potato watching re-runs. Go for walks every day to get some fresh air and do some light bodyweight training to enhance the immune system and provide a feeling of empowerment. Just don't do anything taxing that'll hamper breathing.
The article is very good, and I'd say more should read it. it doesn't advocate to train no matter how sick you are, but there are times when it can be beneficial.

To answer to your situation OP, with a 103 fever....hell no I wouldn't go train.

I'm not making this story up, I saw a guy in the gym a few weeks ago sitting at the bench press with a full box of tissues on the floor, a gallon of orange juice and discarded tissues all around him. It looked like he had just camped out there for awhile benching and blowing his nose and looking at him it looked like he would fit in more at a morgue than in the gym at that time. I felt sick just looking at him.

To the OP, don't be that guy! What you have though sounds more serious than an average cold especially if you haven't gotten better in 3 days, a 104 fever is unbelievably high. I'm the last person that would ever go see a doctor for anything, but with a fever like that I probably would.
    Keep punishin'

I did go to the gym when I was sick recently. It was a mistake. My condition was much worse on the next day.

Don't go sick. A) When you work out your core temp raises which is the last thing you need. B) Nobody is going to be happy when they get whatever you have C) your body is focusing on beating the illness. If you shift its focus to trying to build muscle or whatever your goal is then it starts to try and build muscle while not focusing on your ailment as much, therefor you get sicker.

If you're anything like me I get all itchy when I can't go to the gym because of illnesses (rare for me) but just do the smart thing and stay out of the gym.

i lift if i have a cold because it doesn't make it worse
    i do skip cardio
if i don't i get an annoying cough that lasts for weeks

haven't had anything worse than a cold for a long time so i can't comment on what i would do in that case

You may want to seek physician help.
Bodybuilding is 60% training and 50% diet. Yes that adds up to 110%, because that's what you should be giving it. Change the inside, and the physique will follow.

Depending on how sick and if I felt like I was dying; I would just go to the doctor.

Take it from a guy who has been there done that, I'm young (21), but that doesn't mean **** when you're sick. When you're young you want to workout 100% all the time, and I did when I was sick, and believe me DONT DO IT, your body's immune system is already burning more calories and energy. Your immune system needs all the energy it can get when it's fighting an infection, and if you workout you will basically cause your immune system to shutdown.

I was sick for 2 weeks!!! Flu like symptoms because I felt a little better and decided to workout, big mistake, my immune system was almost done fighting the flu virus then it got weakened because I worked out and the flu virus took over

Short story: Rest = the best

Update because I know you guys care so much....

Went back tonight after my fever broke last night and did triceps and chest...and had my best lifts EVER.

DB bench got 100 pound DBs x 12 3 times (our gym only has 100 pounders)

BB bench got 275 x 6...2 weeks ago 275 was pretty much my max, struggled to get it out the other day

DB incline was able to get 80s x 10 for 4 sets

Taking those few days off made my chest totally blow up...I gained 4 pounds from sitting around and eating horrible but today I felt so intense in the gym, felt like I was unstoppable

doing Dips I felt like I was gonna throw myself through the ceiling, CGBP I was able to get 165 x 12 on my last set.

Maybe getting sick wasn't such a bad thing?
