Something I've just wondered about for quite some time and haven't come up with an answer. What is the science behind mass equaling more strength or the ability to move heavier objects?

There is a lot of physics and anatomy&phys behind this. Strength is the force exerted by a muscle, and the larger/thicker muscle fibers are, the stronger they will be.
The metaphor above basically answers your question."The next time someone tells you that you can't be lean and big and strong, all simultaneously, slap them dead in the mouth, rape their girlfriend, and then go lift something heavy."

I always thought it was strength = mass.
Just because your big does not mean your strong.Heres and idea, you know that thing at the top of your screen its square and says "search" on it. Yeah there you go, you see it? Why dont you actually use that damn thing and quit expecting people to feed you like your a damn baby. I here people say the only stupid question is the one you didnt ask.....that is a lie. 395/520/650 from 3" deficit @235.

it's easier to gain more muscle when you just straight up gain weight. it's easier to gain strength when you gain more muscle. it's hard to lose weight but not lose muscle

Well just from observation a 130lb 6 ft kid starting the gym lifts 45lbs on bench starting out now a 200lb 6ft kid starting out goes and lifts 125lbs on the bench. Both just started yet the more massive being is capable of lifting more. Now those numbers are just numbers I pulled out of no where but the point is the bigger the body the more weight that can be moved even if they both just started lifting weights.

I know more people IRL that do than on this board - Most of the regular posters in here compete in tested feds and certainly the majority of the posters with whom I converse on a daily basis are natural.
Sweeping statements are just that.Koyongi: I am going to accomplish this by following a haphazard training system, and forging elite fitness.

The definition of strength is the CNS's effiiciency to recruit muscle fibre.
So the total weight lifted is some product of strength and the cross-sectional area of the muscle. ussually, bigger people have more muscle, so more muscle is recruited during the lift, even if they have the same CNS efficiency(the same % of muscle fibre are recruited, but the fibre is bigger, for the bigger person.)
There are more things that come into play when thinking total weight lifted, such as tendon insertion points, height, any injuries, et cetera.
Not sure if that made any sense to any of you?

To answer the OP's original question:
Presumably, if you gain mass you will gain muscle to some degree, and as you gain muscle some of it will go into the myofibrils, thereby increasing the cross sectional area of the muscle fibers to some degree, and hence when you contract your muscles there will literally be more muscle to contract, which will then produce more force.

snatching 380+lbs. @ 170lbs
Nasser el sonbaty did bench competition and could only do like 14 reps with 225 when he was in offseason at over 300lbs.
also jay cutler has never done more then like 4 plates for squats in his video that I've seen. And usually only for low reps. Basically size=/strength and vice versaupdated 2011

You can't compare different people.. The question is if one person would be stronger if they were larger (and I assume not from muscle but rather fat).
Weight: 176
(peak) ... - 09/13/10 - 365 / 255 / 435 total: 1055
(current). - 09/13/10 - --- / --- / ---.. total: ----
(goal) .... - 01/13/11 - --- / --- / ---... total: ----
