About 3 months ago I was benching and felt a real sharp pain in my right shoulder. I changed up my routine (no benching, no overhead presses) because they were simply unbearable and hoped that the issue would resolve itself.
After 3 months of pain with ZERO improvement in my shoulder, I finally decided to see a specialist and have an arthrogram. When they were injecting the contrast dye they noticed a ton of inflammation and even had trouble getting the dye to take.
Well, I took the results to a sports medicine specialist on Friday and found out I have a SLAP (Superior Labrum, Anterior to Posterior) tear.
This section between the bone and cartilage shouldn't exist (see arrow):
Apparently it won't be able to heal itself, nor will it get any worse from inaction. I'm trying to decide whether or not to undergo surgery to repair it.
I've continued to make gains even without being able to "press" any weight (push ups, DB cross-overs, Cable cross-overs, DB pullovers are all pain-free).
I just don't know if I'm delaying the inevitable by not having the surgery.

Had the surgery, check out my progress pics. Surgery was a very easy decision for me.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.
I've spent the past few days looking through everything I could find online and it seems that surgery is the most logical option.
I'm waiting on the doctor to call me back now to setup a time for the procedure.
I'm dreading not being able to lift for a while, but I figure the sooner I get this done, the sooner I'm back to the iron.#Mensan
