The more stupid you are, the less you can appraise the intelligence of others
So, really stupid people don't recognise when another person is highly intelligent or talented or skilful.
Secondly, the more stupid a person is, the more they overestimate how intelligent they are. And the more intelligent a person is, the more they underestimate their own intelligence.
And relatedly, the more someone shrieks and rages about what you say, the more truthful and hard-hitting your points are - some things just hit too close to the bone for some people.
Come at me.

Completely agree.
I forget which philosopher it was who said that the one who continually questions and admits to not knowing anything is the smartest of all.

Completely agree. It's just too bad our society doesn't award intelligence or work ethic.

It's not just my opinion - it's a robust finding from social psychology.
It was Socrates, btw.

Completely agree. My roommate freshman year used to praise my intelligence all the time. He was a completely idiot and it annoyed me. I'm bright, but nothing compared to some of my classmates.

"anosognosia" has been co-opted to mean that a person is too dumb to understand how dumb they are.

From wiki
One of the main effects of illusory superiority in intelligence is the Downing effect. This describes the tendency of people with a below average intelligence quotient (IQ) to overestimate their intelligence, and of people with an above average IQ to underestimate their intelligence. The propensity to predictably misjudge one's own intelligence was first noted by C.L. Downing who conducted the first cross-cultural studies on perceived intelligence. His studies also evidenced that the ability to accurately estimate others' intelligence was proportional to one's own intelligence. This means that the lower the IQ of an individual, the less capable they are of appreciating and accurately appraising others' intelligence. Therefore individuals with a lower IQ are more likely to rate themselves as more intelligent than those around them. Conversely, people with a higher IQ, while better at appraising others' intelligence overall, are still likely to rate people of similar intelligence as themselves as having higher IQs.
The disparity between actual IQ and perceived IQ has also been noted between genders by British psychologist Adrian Furnham, in whose work there was a suggestion that, on average, men are more likely to overestimate their intelligence by 5 points, while women are more likely to underestimate their IQ by a similar margin.

generalizations are sometimes interesting.
So, you're the exception, I suppose: an exceptionally intelligent person who KNOWS that he is? Not like anyone else in this thread at all.

I think I am very logically and I also think I'm not very smart, actually I think I'm lucky and pretty grateful for how far I've come really. Everyone says I'm smarter then them but I don't believe them and I actually also tell them they are smarter (which I truly believe.)

i don't recall saying i was the exception, nor saying generalizations are uninteresting, but i do know a lot of dumb people who know they're dumb, and smart people who know they're smart.
but then again, how do i know who's dumb or smart? what's the test for intelligence? as far as i know there isn't anything too accurate out there, being that intelligence can cover an infinite variety of skills and knowledge.
so you're telling me albert einstein considered himself retarded? socrates? newton? yeah i'm sure...
