Heavy Duty
Friday, May 18th
Squats (no belt)
475x5x3
A. Bench Press (paused)
315x5x3
B. Chins (paused-ish lol)
50x5x3
Had not done a lick of mobility or flexibility work all week, so everything felt terrible because I couldn't get into the proper positions. Tight hips were raping my lower back on squats and tight shoulders weren't allowing me to retract my scapulae on bench. Was going to do 5x5 and 5x8 again before starting to ramp things up a little bit more next week. There was just no way I was going to get more volume with my body feeling like it was, plus it was a more strenuous night at work than usual which doesn't help.
My squat/bench workouts are going to have a lot of volume, and my deadlift workouts are going to have lower volume focusing on ending with 605x3 and maybe 635x1 before the meet.

Glad to see you went lighter though. Give your body a break before you ramp it up again.

Fuk low-bar squatting, my elbows and shoulders can't take it. Gotta start working a higher bar position or I'm gonna be crippled. I'll do some higher rep work with 405/275 on Friday to work on some form.
It was humid as all hell in the gym today and I was drenched the entire workout. Couldn't keep chalk on my shoulders to save my life.
Made a badass protein shake to get some nourishment back in my body. A couple cups of cookies and cream ice cream, whole milk, and 3 scoops of cookies and cream whey protein.

Have you made any tweaks to your stance recently? Where is this discomfort all of a sudden coming from?

Not sure. Squatting just isn't feeling natural lately. Having the bar as low as I can handle it is just hell on my upper body. Only way I could stay with this is if I am somehow able to transition to a thumbless grip....which I HATE doing. It just feels so weird.
It's not like I am going to go super high bar, but having it a little higher would be far more comfortable on my upper body. Maybe I'll just suck it up and play with a thumbless grip on Friday.

USAPL Raw Nationals is July 19-21...and I have until July 1st to get my entry sent. I'm gonna wait until the last minute to send it in since I should know by then what I should be capable of by the meet.

Deadlift (conventional, no belt)
495x3
Tore something around my right glute-ham tie-in today. It's bruised and I can barely bend my leg. Was planning on doing a modest 495x5x3 and I failed the 4th rep of the 1st set. Something just locked up after I got a couple inches off the floor and I dropped it. Now I am in agonizing pain.
That's probably it for nationals. This is going to set my deadlift training back way too far. Sorry brahs.

Ha thanks man. That 545x3 was extremely painful. Going to completely re-work my squat form again once my injury heals up.

That sucks man but look at it as an opportunity to work on form. I know that's not really what you want to be doing when you were planning on going to Nationals.

Sorry to hear about the tear. Baby the hell out of it and see if you can have an impossibly quick recovery. Don't forget mobility and flexibility have their place too, now you just get more time for them.
