    roughly 1LB per week.
anything more than that is likely fat.

sorry, I misread the question haha.
Ideally, you would want to be gaining roughly a pound a week. 1700 calories over maintenance will probably result in a bit more than that.

it's alright aha. I'm assuming as everyone says 500kcals over maintenance is 1lb/week, surely 1700calories over would be ~3.5lbs/week or is this not correct?

Varies for body type. Kid looks like a hardgainer; if he tries 1700 over (kinda dramatic) and doesn't gain fat..then he's fine.

OP: Get off the scale, get infront of the mirror. I've always found progress pictures to be so much more effective as a tool to measure progress.

by that logic, it'd be pretty easy to gain 52 lbs of muscle in a year.

it obviously wouldnt be 1 pound of muscle. it would be a mix of muscle and fat depending on your training.
The closer you are to failure, the closer you are to victory, all depends on how you walk the line.
