Unhappy I weigh 155 and Can only bench 100.

I am 16 years old, 6'1 and I weigh 155 pounds and I can only seem to bench ( free weight ) 100 pounds. Is this normal because I feel really weak. Also I can only squat 180 pounds which is also very low. I have a friend who is 5'10 and weighs 140 pounds and he can bench 170, I have no idea how.

*If this helps whenever I seem to reach my chest and start to go back up my right arm tenses up and I cannot go up any further, while my left arm feels fine. ( I'm right handed ).

I'm wondering if this is just because I am a beginner or I am just plain weak.

just keep working bro everyone starts somewhere. Stick with it and you'll see some good gains. Also, 6'1 155...you seem pretty small for your height (weight wise) so you will probably want to bulk to add size/strength. Keep your head up and don't get frustrated you'll get there

i weigh 230 and last max was 210.
my chest is my major weak spot so i have to make sure i hit it hard when I lift. When i first started i could only lift 115 and i was roughly 210 pds.
You can't expect to be putting up big numbers right off the bat, just lift hard, eat big and keep at it and you'll be adding weight to your lifts in no time
    good luck man!

OP your arm may be hurting because you are not using proper technique. Keep the weight low until you can perform the exercise with proper technique. Also keep the reps high until you build technique, good form, and some muscle. Then when you are comfortable with a spot do heavier weight. Lift hard and heavy bro it will come. Look at this vid for how to bench.

With the increase in cardio and boxing/mma training I am staying at 175-185lbs compared to 215-230lbs. Will post recent pics soon. Since I will not fight until 6 months from now I will gain some muscle weight and worry about cutting weight later.

When I started a year and a half ago I weighed about... 125 and my max bench was 95.

Now I weigh 155 and bench 235 at age 16.

Your a beginner... the best thing about it is... your bench and all lifts will fly through the roof within the next few months if you lift hard. If you slack, you won't see much. Be dedicated.

Isn't that bad, know bunch of guys at your age who bench less. Everyone needs to start somewhere, don't worry, your bench will get better with time.

    OP don't even sweat it.

I can only bench 135lbs... everyone's gotta start somewhere.

On the other hand, my squat/dl is increasing rapidly lol
