Romanian versus stiff legged deadlifts
Hi everyone
Which ones do you think are better? Or do you do both?
I seem to like stiff legged better but not sure why and whether I should be doing both?
Thanks

I use the search button all the time! Trust me I am the queen of google and searching. All I wanted was your opinions on what you prefer that's all.
I have only been doing stiff leg and quite like them and can feel them in my hammies the next day but I was wondering if you all feel the same.

If your main focus is on hamstrings, then the RDL is the better choice. If done correctly, no lower back should come into play.
The main difference is the the bar position. During the RDL, the hips move backwards and you keep the bar closer to your body. During the SLDL, your butt stays put. (though it will move a little bit.) You'll rotate around the hips, but the bar is kept further away from your body, which puts greater stress on the lower lumbar.

^^ I do either, depending on which muscle group I want to focus on during that particular workout.

I usually do the RDLs... i feel them less in my lower back and more in my hammies, glutes.

Thanks. I did RDL's today and like them better. I felt it in my hammies more and I just felt stronger. I hated deadlifts not too long ago but I think they are growing on me :-)

I find RDLs better for lower reps (heavier weight) and SLDLs for higher reps (lower weight), simple due to Kimm's explanation that SLDLs will put more stress on the lower back and can cause some people (especially if done incorrectly) unnecessary injuries. I think both have their place in a program and you can use RDLs for your Ham focus day and your SLDLs on your lower back day.
