personally i reckon youd get fitter constantly increasing the distance of your runs vs a steady long ride. i find running way harder.

its all academic unless you got your diet and calorie intake in check, its 90% of it

Yeah. I ride and find running much more taxing. It engages way more muscles than riding, I believe.

I like running better, but harder on the knees/back. If you run, run on grass, not pavement.
Cycling impacts your prostate, something you will appreciate protecting later on for you.

Either way, your cardio should be 45 to 60 minutes/day for 3 or 4 days a week at 65% to 70% of max heart rate which is (220-your age). If you are serious ,buy a heart monitor, the type that goes around your chest.

For weight loss, ask yourself this: "Which burns more calories?"

That is always your answer for weight loss.

Running a mile can't take you more than 10 minutes and burns about 100 calories so 40 mins of cycling is probably better.
A diet isn't punishment. A diet is a way to reward your body with the wholesome, nutritious food that it needs. Your body composition is a direct reflection of what you put in your mouth.

My experience is that running is the ultimate cardio, nothing else comes close.

my body didn't look the way i wanted until I added serious running into my schedule. Hugely Increased vascularity due to losing fat and all the cardio vascular effects , oxygen-blood flow...

3-5 miles a day runner here..... During bulk I put on very little amount of fat, and during my cuts fat melts away... All because of running.

Helps me get very flexible with my calories and the types of food I eat.

Brb eating half a cheesecake in the middle of my cut and still lose weight.....

    Thumbs up

a run is more taxing in general but heh its the effort expended on the cycle that will decide do the same as a run

The only cardiovascular activity that can compare to running in terms of energy expenditure is swimming. Which is why I run 6 days a week and then swim on Wednesday.

I personally like running more as I feel I get more benefit and see pretty good results. I think it is just this though, a personal preference. There are pros and cons to both and if you can only run 1 mile at the moment you're probably not killing your joints like a marathon runner or killing your prostate like a long distance biker. Alternate and do both to keep it interesting. Good luck.
