In bodybuilding we eat ,eat, and eat!
In wrestling we diet, diet, and diet!
My coach wants me to cut 5 pounds of weight when I have just about have no water in my body.
He thinks I could win states if I wrestle at 130. I wrestled the number one ranked kid in the state at 130 and beat him 6-4.
If I wrestled at 135 I would come in the top 3 but would not win.
Is cutting 5 pounds worth winning states?
Will cutting 5 pounds make me loose muscle?

man think about this for a second.
Lets say you currently weigh 135. When you diet down you get very frail and weak and puny. So those guys at 130 and at 140 are practically the same, in the sense that the weight is not much different and they are all weak and frail due to all of the dieting. Why not just bulk up 5 pounds, and you'll be as strong as a brick and you'll be able to easily beat those frail, half-dead puny 140 pounders? Do you see my knowledge?
Why not come in strong and thick at 140, then weak and frail at 130.

Yeah you guys wish it was as easy as being stronger than the other guy, I didn't try to cut weight but with all the cardio i lost a good 6 lbs during the season....but guess what, I was lifting the whole time and now my bench has increased by aobut 15 lbs and I added a lot of weight on my back excersizes as well...now I'm no fitness specialist, but I dont think you can get significantly stronger while losing muscle. If you can lose 5 lbs in 2 days which isnt all that hard, you can gain it back in the same amount of time becuase chances are its the very little excess fat and water weight you have. One week of 5 lbs less is not likely to crush your bodybuilding dreams.

Wrestler here:
Weight 125
Age: 14 (Freshman)
Record: 5-6
State: KS
Division: 6a
M yonly problem was I pulled 4 muscles in my Shoulder and was unable to wreestle for a good 3.5 weeks. I missed the best part of the season. My last match is tomarrow and I am wrestling at 135. My coacuh is a good one, and he tells us we can put on as much weight as we want as long as our cardio-vasicular is still really good, and all thta weight is muscle. He exaplined that what most guys that add muscle and move up to a higher weight class, end up being stronger than the normal kids.

It is possible to just lose fat weight. I lost a little weight for swimming this year and it didn't hurt my stats (weight wise any way; i may have taken a bit of fat off, reducing circumfrences a bit) Another thing you can do is lose water weight. My brother has been sick these past two days and has been unable to drink without vomiting. He lost 5 pounds in 2 days. Now he is better and all it took to gain it back was 15 minutes and a glass of water. Anyway, go for it!

I'm gonna have to say a few things about the negative posts I've seen here for a sec. Losing 5 lbs for a week doesn not mean you will definitely lose 5 lbs of muscle. It doesn't mean that you won't either though. All the people in here saying you can either be one or the other, I suppose you never do any sort of physical activity besides bodybuild am I right? You don't need to make a friggin choice about what sport you want to do, for one thing he's a teenager so chances are it isnt affecting him negatively too much anyways, for another thing Oh no we don't gain a ton of weight for a 3 month period that means we can never bodybuild again! I found that Even if I'm not gaining a lot of weight during a sport, I can gain a lot of strength so when the sport is over, I can go back and blast my muscles harder than I could before. So think before you post ignorant remarks about how you can either do one or the other ok.
Oh yeah, I don't see the difference of a 5 lb thickness helping all that much... I mean its not like when you drop 5 lbs you look all sicky and anorexic if you were only 5 lbs heavier anyways, I lost 8 lbs and none of my measurments have gone down so I'm as thick as I was before.

here is a good trick i used when i used to wresle at 143.. when i was fairly close to my weight.. say within an ounce or 2.... i would stand on my head for about 1 minute-2 minutes. it can shave off those extra ounces for a short period of time..that way you can make weight......
i gotta agree .. i have said it on here... wrestling and bb dont mix... why kill yourself..have no energy, and wrestle at a lower weight class.. when you can be pumped full of energy, be healthy, and OBVIOUSLY be feeling better than your opponent and wrestle at the next class. ??????
