Sorry in advance since I am posting from my phone.
Little backstory, I started seriously loosing weight in may 08 and since than have gone from 465 pounds to 250 and size 64 pants to size 36. I have noticed my body leaning out tremendously but I have alot of extra skin around the midsection and still have moobs (though these seem to almost be extra skin aswell)
Since I am 25 my question is in regards to skin elasticity, what can I do to try to restore it. I have another 30 or 40 pounds to go, and I hate the idea of surgery. Any suggestions?
Thanks guys and gals

im about your same age, and lost close to the amount you have. ive done pretty good for the most part, in terms of skin bounce back- but there are parts (lower abs, inner thighs) that are a bit more rough than others. my best advice is to give it a bit more time. cut down to a low BF%, then bulk up clean and try to fill in a bit. give yourself at least a year at your goal weight before you make any decisions on surgery. some peopkle belive that high amounts of vitamin E help to improve the bounceback elasticity too.
congrats on your progres man. i know how good you feel, and you should"lady who goes fishing with men, comes back with red snapper" ~ Walt Whitman, 1986

first GJDM on losing that much .. great progress keep that hard work
2nd loose skin will tighten up by time only in some cases though once i saw a guy from biggest loser show lost around 250 lbs and got solid 6 packs with minimum loose skin
3rd try Vitamin E also getting sun bath helps in skin tightening
4th Meso-Therapy:-medical specialty targets problem areas with micro-injections of conventional or homeopathic medicines, vitamins, mineral and amino acids. Tiny “medicinal bullets” are delivered directly into the mesoderm (middle layer of the skin) that are specific to the condition being treated whether it be for dissolving unwanted fat in the area or to tighten sagging skin. Several treatments may be required though you may see results with just one treatment!
but meso therapy injections not cheap at all , and some times takes more than 8 treatments to end the skin problem
but give it time don't rush , it will shrink as long as you losing BF% .. if you get to single digit bf% the skin will tighten up to the max probably ..

Wow, great progress! Very inspiring. Keep up the great work! Have nothing to offer about the loose skin though. Hoping my skin stays tight. Have lost 75 lbs. Want to lose another 40-75 lbs before bulking.

I read an article that where the author stated that it was rare to find someone with a low bodyfat% (8% or lower) who had loose skin. Now that I've been educated on bodyfat percentages, and I've seen the plastic surgery websites that show pictures of so-called "loose skin", I've realized that most of the pics I saw were of guys who were clearly 13-16% with little muscle development. So I'm convinced that by getting to a low bf% and building muscle, your skin will snap back to normal.
oh and congrats on your success!

The best thing you can do is a ton of back work. Kill your back at least twice per week and if you arent sore on other days add some light back work. get your back as physically huge as possible. Your lats are your biggest muscle and cover the most area so getting them huge will fill out your skin and tighten up. Also add oblique work too

Congratulations man - incredible work!
Loose skin has been my constant nemesis since dropping 100+ pounds (not near what you have though!). I went from fat to skinny fat and began researching different surgical remedies. During my research, it seemed like the risk/reward equation just wasn't worth it (too much inherent risk with the potential for only mixed results).
As I've started putting on muscle (about 9 months ago) and eliminated drinking alcohol entirely, I've been able to see my abs for the first time in my life and my loose skin continues to shrink. As some above stated, the more BF you lose, the less loose skin you'll have.
The hardest part for me was dropping all of that weight and realizing the journey wasn't over - you just graduate from basic to advanced fat loss.#Mensan

I agree! I have viewed the web sites of many plastic surgeons who perform "tummy tucks" and I have yet to see a before and after picture of someone with anywhere near 8% body fat. Everyone is 15% or more. I also noticed several sugeons who say if you are within 10% of your ideal bodyweight you need a mini-tummy tuck, if you closer to 20% you should have a full tummy tuck. I find it interesting that those closer to reaching their ideal weight have less skin to remove than those who are not as close. It tends to make one question if surgery is necessary at all if you get to 8% or below.

Listen, the skin is actually fat and skin cells. The skin part, will go away on it's own through time, through showers, through exfoliation, and the body itself tightening the skin.
I'm sure there is someone out there who's lost more than you and managed to get rid of the flabby skin through work rather than surgery.
Replace everything with muscle, use vitamen E and sea salt baths. But wait at least 2 years before you believe surgery is your only option. Usually you won't need it if you do it right.

Good observation! I've heard of people who were in their 60's whose skin even snapped back after reaching a low bodyfat%. I just think most people who get those surgeries are fearful that they would have to starve themselves to lose anymore fat, which is just a result of the miseducation of proper nutrition.
I think people have to realize how the fat looks as it's being packed on versus how it looks when it's being burned off. Think of a grape when it's ripe. That's what bodyfat looks like as it's being put on. Now think of a raisin. That's what bodyfat looks like as you burn huge amounts of it off. And on top of that you factor in gravity. But the raisin-appearance fades away when you burn most of the fat off, down to a low bodyfat %.
People act like there is a permanent layer of plaque-like fat underneath the skin that can't be gotten rid of once you've become obese. I just have a hard time believing that. If you can lose 200 lbs of fat, why can't you lose 30 more to get down to 8% bodyfat? Just seems like a huge cop out to me.

The main thing about loose skin, is the speed at which you lost weight. Your body has to adjust itself.
When you packed on the pounds, your body grew your skin to adjust for it. That was a slow process over years. Now you lost all your fat within a year, and your body can't keep up with shrinking the skin.
Just give it time, I think simply doing nothing will eventually make it disappear. But if you want to speed up, lose more body-fat.
