Just curious how many other misc'ers here carry concealed. Handgun, that is.
I carry a Glock 22 with my concealed carry permit (technically, in my state, you need a permit to carry at all).
Open carriers welcome as well.

You should become VERY familiar with all gun-related laws in your state. Check this resource:
http://www.carryconcealed.net/
Whether carrying a gun is more or less dangerous than not carrying one, it depends on the situation.
Unfortunately, the issue is so charged with political rhetoric and extremist positions, it's hard to know anything anymore. No one does statistics from a neutral standpoint anymore, it's all to prove an agenda one way or another.
All I know is that the (state, federal, and local) law permits me 100% to carry a concealed firearm in most locations (and I am aware of where it cannot be carried). My Starting Strength journal:

carry concealed, glock 19. I've been carrying for 2 years, have never once had to bring it out.
To the posters asking "why do you carry", it is pretty simple. I grew up being told to be prepared for every possible situation imagineable. Luckily I live in an upper middle class area, but the time may come.

The need for a gun does not present itself with enough time to run to your car and grab the gun. Because when seconds matter, the police are minutes away. It's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.
If everything goes as planned, I'll never use it against another living thing. My Starting Strength journal:

Not everyone should carry. Only carry if you are confident you know how, and are confident you could use the gun if needed to protect yourself or another potential victim.
It's a simple issue of a remote possibility. I live in a city that has, according to some statistics, the highest violent crime rate of any city in the entire US. I have been harassed by a gang of young men (fortunately not physically assaulted during it). I have had a break-in in the apartment directly beneath mine, just a few feet from my own window. My wife has been approached by strange men with clearly bad intentions.
That is why my wife and I always carry pepper spray. I also usually carry my Glock 22 and a knife.
Some may argue that it's unlikely to be necessary. Sure, that's true. But if, or when, the situation arises, do you want to be a victim? Can a gun be wrestled from you? Yes. Can you protect yourself from a lethal weapon (gun, knife) with just your bare hands? If they really intend to hurt you, probably not.My Starting Strength journal:
