    Rest day

How much/little do you guys do on a rest day, today I've done nothing but watch tv, feel so lazy, would I be better doing some light cardio or something next time.

To me, a 'rest' day is a day with no training whatsoever, weights or cardio. I simply go about my usual day's activities, whatever that may include.
    No brain, no gain.

I believe in just listening to your body. If you feel you need the entire day to do absolutely nothing, do nothing. If you feel like you have lots of energy to burn, then do cardio or weights. I think it just boils down to the individual, and listening to your own body. I personally need the full day off per week. But, there are those who workout 7 days per week, using one day for a light/active recovery day...to each's own. But, listen to your body, it's your best guide.

Typically on my rest days we take the boat out & I spend a lot of time in the water swimming. I find it very relaxing & don't consider it an actual exercise of any sort.

Like all the others said, I rest. I do walk, I walk every day, but I don't lift weights.

^^^^This WEG is right listen to what your body tells you. I train 7 days a week a light day for me is cardio. Every couple of weeks my body tells me enough and when that happens I do absolutely nothing except take care of my kids.

I work out 3-4 days a week, try to shoot for every oter day. Yesterday was a rest day, went to the beach, swam, walked and soaked up the rays. Cut the lawn at home, so I did get my yardio in. Took a few dips in the pool as well. I'm still kind of beat up from my other job, may need an unscheduled rest day this week. I agree with listen to your body.

What I have started doing on off days is first thing in the morning I get on the elliptical for 20-30 minutes at a comfortable pace and then stretch for 10-15 minutes. This has helped alleviate any pain or stiffness from lifting the day before. It has not interfered with my progress so far.

No "rest day" for me because I am at the gym 7 days a week, unless it is completely unavoidable. I lift 5 days a week, and throw in at least 3 cardio days (obviously one day I end up doing both). It has gotten to the point with my progress that I look forward to going to the gym every day, and miss it when i don't.

Generally swim at a relaxed pace and try to convince myself that it's not really cardio.

No, that's not rest. Personally I don't get this mentality. You try to build muscle by training with weights and then ruin it by not allowing for rest. It's a huge mistake.

My rest days include light cardio. I don't skip cardio at all ( 7 days). I change the intensity level though. One piece of advice, if you are into changing your habits, modify the TV routing ( if you are into snacking) New habits require new activities. Be active and enjoy your health!

I used to have very bad habits and watch TV while munching on something. That has changed, I keep myself active.

the concept of "a rest Day" per week for me has become more important as I have been finding out that whatever workout I do the day after I rest, I ended up exceeding my rep or weight goals for that specific workout session, more rapidly than when I work out for 7 days straight(cardio days in between weight days), now I schedule a rest day per week randomly before the day I train a major Body part(legs,BAck and such) and it is giving an edge on gaining progress a lot faster on each exercise than when I had no real rest days.....I did log everything since I started training, so that is how I'm verifying my rates of progress, and able to make comparisons now... all REST days get my vote for sure......at least once a week..
