NASM Training q?
so I'm looking at the nasm website for certification and I was wondering what the recommendation is?
http://www.nasm.org/getcertified/
I mean what package is adequate? I mean could I just take the practice exam and then study what I didn't know and take the exam or foot the extra $ for the online course, dvd, podcast and mp3 audio ?
I mean I am sure there are free study guides online for this somewhere

Get the book, you'll probably learn something different than your usual approach and be ready for the specific NASM exam questions. It's not some generic exam.
Do you just want to pass or actually learn something? There's a study guide going around that should only work as a supplement to the material in the book and it misses a lot of important information.
It's much better to actually know the ideas behind the concepts than just knowing dry answers to get a question right.

no, I want to know the info. It's just something I've been looking into. Just been informally helping friends, family, and some people at my gym out. Haha, I'm no expert and I don't even follow everything with my own actions, but I read these forums pretty religiously, mens health, and other articles and just pass the info on to people who ask for help. I was just thinking maybe getting certified wouldn't be a bad idea just for extra experience and p/t work
I was just wondering what some trainers on here who are nasm certified would suggest. BTW nasm is pretty much the main one I would need if I was to choose a certification right?

Carbs = Good
get as much stuff as you can because they are going to have specific questions and phrases that they use in their resources that you need to know. You can know a lot about training but still fail because you dont know their references.

Get the basic package (book, dvd's, mp3's, videos). Know everything like the back of your hand. You'll need to know it all. Good luck!

get the book, the practice test is not as hard as the real one much more detailed questions on the real exam, but take the pre test many times to get kind of an idea of what the real test is like. i got dvds bc i can learn better by visualization but book is essential for alot of the material too. i got the package deal since it included the workshop

Get the basic package. It's only $80 more and you get the book, study guide, and DVD (the DVD is the same as the online video course). Unless you really know your stuff somehow or are super smart, you won't pass the exam with just the online videos. The videos are an overview - the book goes into detail. Things like overactive/underactive muscles during movement assessments are NOT covered in the videos and there WILL be very specific questions on those. If you don't know them, there's at least 5% off your score right there, maybe even 10%. The Ipod stuff is basically the videos ... without the video. The study guide is meh (I rolled through it, didn't help much), but the book is what the exam is really on. As others have mentioned the final exam is more detailed than the practice exam. I took the practice exam maybe 10 times throughout my studying and I didn't feel comfortable taking the final until I cleared 90% on the practice. Long story short you need the book, you need to read it front to back, and you need to skim through it a couple times because the questions asked on the exam can get very specific.
