Feeling hot after a meal....
Hi,
I just had a cup of delicious roasted broccoli in olive oil and 1 medium roasted sweet potato
(btw I'm very proud of my newfound love for healthy food)...followed by 2 servings of gatorade, 100 calories worth, about 30 min ago; so i'm in my air conditioned apartment and am actually feeling very hot right now....like waves of heat through my body...anybody know why this could be? Thanks : )

Niacin and beta alanine can cause hot flashes, but you didn't eat foods containing those nutrients. So I'd suspect hormones. Are you losing weight too fast? Doing too much with too little food? Any other symptoms?

Thanks for the response...I've lowered my calories to anywhere between 1300 to 1800 max on the 11th of this month. Just recently, I've started trying to improve my macros...getting in healthy fats, less bad carbs, more good carbs, and more protein which is hard for me as a vegetarian I've been doing well but have only lost 5 pounds. So no, I don't think I am losing too fast. I am going to see my doctor again because I suspect something is wrong with me. I actually had gotten checked for diabetes a few months ago since it runs heavily in my family but the doc said I'm fine...said I had to increase my good cholesterol... Perhaps my hormones are to blame as you say. I'be spent my whole life eating poorly and I think that now it may be catching up with me: (

PS...I'm always tired so I'm weening myself off of caffeine to see if that may be the culprit

Wouldn't hurt to get your thyroid checked as well.
5 pounds in 17 days? Hopefully some of that is water
No vitamins? B-complex drove me crazy with niacin flushes.

I had my thyroid checked almost a year ago and everything is fine, I'm currently taking Centrum Cardio and Flax seed pills...and I'm sure it was water weight I lost...I cut down on my sodium intake which was through the roof before

Did you take the centrium and flax seed shortly before the hot flashes?

Maybe it's your body just digesting your food. I personally get cold after I eat (since my blood moves towards digesting my food) but my husband is hot after dinner a lot (in our A/Ced apt). I know he has a really high metabolism. You also did eat a relatively good portion of complex carbs so it might just be your body working to break them down..

Hi,
I did a little internet search and found that some people get hot after eating alot of carbs at once...hopefully it was that and not some hormonal problem

When cutting for shows, I like to play a fun game where I check my body temp before and after eating certain foods. When I drop carbs, my temp runs about 96-97. Then after a few days of low carb eating, I'll spike my consumption (usually with sweet potatoes), and my temp will immediately jump to 100 degrees and stay there for about 15 min. or so. It's interesting, and keeps me entertained during contest prep.
