What's the downfall of splitting up SS exercises?

After doing SS by the book for 4-5 months I kind of got burned out, probably because of the dread of squatting before every workout. I found that I wasn't looking forward to my workouts and they weren't as intense as when I began SS.

So I decided to keep mainly doing the SS workouts but just split them up differently.

    One day I do squats/deadlifts
The second day I do bench work for the chest and some arm stuff for good measure
The third day I do military press, bent over barbell row, and weighted chin ups

I know that there are benefits to squatting before doing upper-body exercises, and I won't be getting those benefits since I am only squatting on my lower-body day. But how much will my progress be hindered by this, and are there any supplementary exercises that could offset only squatting once a week? Will I still see the central nervous system benefits that Rippetoe cites in his promoting of squatting before every workout?

Why don't you just do 5x5 instead? Which is the normal protocol after someone leaves SS.

Here is a site with the different variants
    http://xtort.net/bill-starrs-5-x-5-training/

This is the version I'm using, which explains the program in detail. http://www.wackyhq.com/madcow5x5/geo...Linear_5x5.htm

For me its a lot less taxing then SS.
