I just want to say that I just joined this site and wasn't sure what section to put this in. Im also a martial artist and train in Shotokan Karate (for nearly a year).
How was Bruce Lee so physically strong yet had a small frame? I've heard some people say it was genes and others have said it's just the way he trained. But im interested in what you think.

Bruce Lee was probably a martial artist more than he was a human, he trained like a machine and only ate a ridiculously complex and calcualted diet.
He didn;t even take clothes with him on holiday, he took training equipment.
And dude, sorry to say, he was the one and only. No one has yet been able to do 50 one armed pull ups or 2 finger push ups - and it's very doubtful anyone ever will again.
Lee was just... well, a freak, in a good way.
And he had good recovery as well. So he must have had really good genetics to do all that training he did.COMPETITION BESTS:

THAT BEING SAID.
Don't let that discourage you from being the best you can be (which was basically Lee's goal as a martial artist and a fighter).
Maybe one day, you COULD get to his standard. But you would need to work your backside off.COMPETITION BESTS:

I wouldn't be surprised if he alternated arms and rested a bit between each one.
Then again, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a strait 50 also.
But Lee had some kind of instinct, just to be the best in the world (LOL, Flyod Mayweather wouldn't be anything in a boxing ring compared to Lee)COMPETITION BESTS:

You have no concept of how skilled bruce lee was in multidisciplined fighting.
For a start, bruce knocked out a guy who outweighed him by 100 pounds in a boxing match fought under pro rules.
He sent blokes 300lbs in size flying with his one inch punch.
Lee could snatch a coin of someones hand and replace it with another coin before they could close their fist.
He could throw grains of rice in the air and catch them with chopsticks.
He did (there is footage of this) 2 finger onearm-pushups and 2 thumb pushups.
He could hold a 75lbs barbell locked out strait (pushed off the chest from a vertical postion) for 20 seconds.
He also held the elevated V-sit position for over 30 minutes.
Finally (and most imporant), a protective steel headgear which had been subjected to a pounding from a sledgehammer, which is resisted, CAVED IN AFTER LEE PUNCHED IT.
Lee had training in most martial arts (INCUDLING BOXING, WHICH HE WAS VERY GOOD AT}. When Mayweather does ANY of this, I'll belive he could last more than 30 seconds against Bruce Lee under any rules before being knocked over the ring ropes with one punch.COMPETITION BESTS:

Mayweather is SCARED of MMA fighters, he's been given the chance to put his Money where his mouth is, and even under modified rules, and everytime hes declined realising he'd get battered and embarrassed. Instead he opted to go and work with WWE in scripted fights for a change of scene (nothing against WWE atheltes BTW, their conditioning is just as hard as boxers).

Bruce Lee is GOD. Or at least the closest thing humankind has seen to it. He had really good quick-twitch muscles. That's why you hear about the push ups and pull ups, and not the bench. Strength slows down muscle twitch.
He was the kinda guy who was small, fierce, and packed a really mean punch, but not the kind of guy who set bench press records.******** AESTHETICS CREW

You're a fool.
Mayweather is the best pound for pound boxer in the world.
All he has ever done is box.
Bruce Lee's fitness wouldn't be an advantage, because Mayweather fights in the best poosible condition to be in for 12 rounds of boxing.
Knocking out some bum who weighed more than him doesn't mean anything. Do you think any decent level boxer couldn't do that?
I can't believe you seriously think that somebody who was really fit and did some boxing training would beat the best boxer in the world, who has been boxing for 30 years and won world titles in numerous weight divisions, because he "could throw rice in the air and catch it with chopsticks". Pmsl are you for real?
Bruce Lee being super-strong doesn't help much either seeing as it's not a wrestling contest and Mayweather doesn't like to clinch.
If Bruce Lee was so good at boxing why didn't he compete and beat up the likes of Roberto Duran and Sugar Ray Leonard?
Bruce Lee would look retarded in a boxing ring against any fighter with a national belt or above. I would be confident sparring against him if he was alive, real talk.

lmao, if he was still alive hed be an OAP.
And yes, im 14, im a high functioning autistic and im more than capable of making an informed decision of whos going to win:
A cocky american boxer whos self obsessed
OR
The greatest and fastest striker who ever lived, who was smart and mentally flexible
Lee was able to strike with his arms so fast, THAT THE WORLD KARATE CHAMPION COULD NOT STOP EIGHT PUNCHES THAT HE WAS PREPARED FOR.

Your just using my age as an excuse (and a lazy one) to explain away why you know Lee > Mayweather, but are too ignorant to admit it.
He didn't compete in boxing becuase first and foremost he was a martial aritist and an acotr - but he was more than capable of being world class at it.COMPETITION BESTS:

Come on guys! What are you fighting over?! I mean, what is the point?! Who cares whether Mayweather would knock out Bruce or Bruce would knock out Mayweather?! Both might be the best in their own style and anything may happen during a fight.
As for the question asked by xLionHeart, I've read Joe Hyams' book 'Zen in the Martial Arts' and there are some bits about Bruce Lee in it. His strength may have had many reasons. One of them is genetics which I know nothing about. The others could be conditioning, such as the pull ups and etc. mentioned by Willhu12, excessive training AND the chi/ki which is so important in martial arts. btw I practice Shotokan too. I'm a purple belt. What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us

OP, if you want a Bruce Lee body, your not going to have anytime to do anything other than training, eating, choregraphing or sleeping. Lee was focused on ONE thing, and that was being the best he could be. He had the ability to be aloof from social interactions, unless he was giving an interview on how he trained/advised others to train.

Pull-ups are easier the smaller and leaner you are because you have less distance to travel. Just like taller guys will have more trouble with bench and squatting. Bigger people can add more muscle though and have the potential to be stronger.
Now his workouts were based around bodyweight exercises so he never neglected his back which is pretty common today. He probably wasn't a stronger squatter or bench presser if tested but if nothing else he had good strength in his back and a good lean body.=============================================

lmao at you fools, bruce lee comes from a wing chun background, as useless a martial art as it gets, but he did developed his JKD, a more usefull art for fighting then wing chun will ever be, but thanks to all his background martial arts he did fine in local boxing tourneys, nothing in the level of floyd, lets be honest you could do 45675 2 finger pullups or whatever acrobatics you wanna do, but if he got in the ring with mayweather he would get killed no doubt about it... imo his skills would be better for mma then boxing, were he can use the variety of skills... his wins in boxing were just amateur events... a total different level the were mayweather is.
but he was very influential, alot of ppl were against teaching chinese arts and **** to non chinese, and he also started the whole weight training for martial arts craze, hence why so many mma fighters get stronger also, the judo lee did made him well rounded... so a good well rounded fighter.... bruce lees training looks just like the average mma fighter training of now a days, so he was in alot of ways ahead of his time hence why so influential...
now im not saying lee could not beat mayweather in an actual fight, dont get me wrong, in a street fight or an mma fight lee would kill him, his wellrounded ness would be toooo much.ADMA Muay Thai gym.

Heck, Lee would beat Mayweather if you put a Rubik's cube in front of both of them and told them to solve it.
I'm sorry, but I just cannot agree with you my friend - Lee's strength and ednurance would previal - not to mentioned the fact his strikes normally couldn't be caught on a slowmo camera.
And it was 50 one arm, not <50000 two finger. LOL, I've just realised that their both ridiculously unreasonable (but which one seems more attainable?).
I'd like to see Mayweather take on a semi-decent MMA combatant. So he could (literally) put his money where his mouth is. Of course, he'd never do it on the fear of loosing his pretty boy image.

lmao u guys are dillusional im sorry this is real life, doing 50 1 arm pushups is irrelevant in fighting sure it can help, but theres alot of other ways to get strong for fighting, in a boxing fight may would win, skill trumps all that ****, i dont doubt that he was fast but unless we seen him fight top competition we could never know... this is real life and its like saying that royce gracie would not be able to make bruce lee tap like a bitch, his a human, a gifter human and a hardworking one, but theres 0 chance of him getting out of a fight against royce gracie back in the day, lee would get raped, specially cause the only ground training he did was a bit of judo, and they more throws then the giant see of bjj... tell me about a guys competition and ill tell u of his skills.
