I took the exam about three weeks ago and passed. Before I took the exam I did the following:
Read the entire book twice.
Went over all the charts in the book multiple times.
Really focused on program design.
The page with the overhead squat assessment (p. 168?) you have to know in and out.
Completed all the online training.
At least 10 practice exams.
I spent about 4 months studying. I wanted to make sure I would remember everything for the long haul, not just the exam.
The exam was easy after all that studying.
Good luck. I wish you two the best.

I did the same above, couldbt have said it better myself. I failed it before, so make sure you know how to take multiple choice exams. That is why screwed me bc I overanalyzed and second guessed myself.

I suggest you read my book Personal Fitness Training Beyond The Basics. I teach/certify trainers for another organization and have noticed that some NASM trainers often fail the test I give them. Not sure why this is but they dont seem to know how to recognize heart disease and other health issues.
My book is different. I explain the science and what you need in the real world. Just a suggestion. I post a lot of other info on my website which should help you too.
good luck

op, i would not read above posters book until after you passed because it could have different information on it than nasm book. not saying anything wrong with the book just numbers here and there could be different and could confuse you on test. i just passed a couple weeks ago and memorize p169, all the tempo, reps and sets for each of the 5 phases and know what exercise is meant for each phase. good understanding of opt model, in nutrition section know exact details on everything such as every vitamin that is transported by fat. its more detailed than practice exam, study hard and good luck

^ this. I did mine in about 2 months, but I studied a lot for it. Only read the book front to back once, but skimmed through it multiple times afterwards. Did practice exam about 10 times spaced out. Viewed videos twice. Spent all my time studying for a week straight leading up to the exam. Just know your stuff - there's nothing too crazy on it, but it's not a cake walk either. Good luck, and study page 168!

How to pass NASM
Just passed my test last week. Go to this site
*KNOW Page 169 in and out. EVERY SINGLE MUSCLE
*Chapters 8-10 Correctional exercises for Stability, Balance and Power
*Know Chapter 13 and what rep/set/rest/energy source goes with the OPT model
If you need more help PM me. This test will be REALLY hard if you don't study your balls off!
I did and still went in thinking I was gonna fail, it is no joke.

I past it last week on the first time, very much like the practice tests. Used the study guide and my highlighted book to study + practice tests
