ok so beginning of feb of this year i decided to start working out. not doing much research i jumped in making my own routines like i knew what i was doing. just straight up isolation exercises. doing like split days. bicep curls, chest flys, tricep extensions, leg extensions and so on. for some reason i was scared of deadlifts and squats...
been doing that for a good 4 months. poor results lead me to do some research. found out that compound movements was what i should have done to begin with. so i started that. i was doing these like 5 sets to failure. not knowing about SS/5x5 routine.
a little more then a month ago i started bill stars 5x5. but now i hear i should have started with SS.
rite, with all that being said. i hear that you would have gained ALOT by starting with this but now since you messed that up you wont gain alot anymore or something like that. WTF is this true? my goal is to get that bodybuilding look. now is my limits permanently shorter? or will i get the same gains by sticking to my SS routine and get the same results as i would if i just started working out?

No. It doesn't work like that. There is no "ratcheting mechanism" at play here. Your training status is determined by absolute performance, not by the length of time you've spent in the gym. If you've been working out for a few years but can still only squat 135lb..then you are just as unadapted as you were on day 1. The less adapted you are...the faster your gains come. By definition, you can't "waste" noob gains. Decreased rate of adaptation comes with increased adaptation. That means that your noob gains will only dry up once your body is sufficiently adapted that you can no longer make gains on a simple linear progression scheme.

You're fine. Your potential is unchanged. You will just take 3-4 months longer to get where you are going...which isn't a big deal.
