Audit has no little to no math. Shouldn't take more than 30 seconds per question.

    Hey everyone,

I have an office interview(2nd, after on-campus) for an assurance intern position for this spring. Its a top 10 firm(don't want to say which), curious on any tips you all might have to ace this interview. It'll be with a few partners/managers. I have most of the basic interview questions down, i.e. strengths, weaknesses, team-related, extracurriculars etc.

Just be yourself. They're not going to ask you any technical questions. They just want to see if you will fit in, so you'll probably be going out to lunch with other candidates and some staff members who will give feedback on you afterwards.

Are you using Becker? Take the flashcards with you and use them for a couple of minutes at a time all throughout the day. Obviously you'll have to find time to do MCQs but the cards are a great way to keep the material fresh in your mind.

How challenging is the CMA compared with the CPA exam? And how much did you have to study for it?

I used to be in the big 4 and had my CPA exams in progress, but got a solid industry offer and left before finishing and getting licensed. Now my tests are expired, and i dont have the 150 units or desire to go through that crap again. I will eventually get an MBA, but do want to get a feather in my cap saying i have some accounting knowledge. Wondering if CMA can fulfill that role

Much harder than AUD was for me and I'd bet money that I failed it. I knew that I would probably have to take REG more than once since I hate tax/business law. I'll just retake it in the next testing window. Next up for me is FAR.

I'd say no, in my firm I do it if I have nothing else. I am in a 10 person firm though, so everyhting here is really laid back and as long as you get your stuff done and are ahead of everything then its fine.

For excel probably in all the big firms everything is pre-filled calculations and you just plug and play. Most of mine are addition and subtraction seriously. For tax calculation you let you accounting software do the heavy lifting not excel. I am mostly tax though so it might vary in more accounting function firms.

Studying at work seems to vary from person to person at my firm. Theres some people that are not assigned to clients yet so they get to literally study the entire work day. Those that are assigned to clients, which is the majority of people I'd say, do not get a single hour of studying during business hours.

The main excel functions are vlookups, pivot tables, and sumifs. Some of the sumifs can get kind of crazy because its sumifs within sumifs. Nothing too crazy though.

Just took FAR yesterday. I felt the sims were a bit different than what I saw on Becker. Multi choice had way less calculation than I expected. With that being said, I got anywhere from a 40-80 haha

be yourself. Don't ask generic accounting questions (So whats a day like at the office, etc.). Ask about stuff you genuinely care about. Smile and have a good time. In my opinion personality is the main factor on if you get an interview or not.

Fuu felt like I bombed it tbh. Talked with a big 4 employee for like 10 mins and forgot to ask him for his card and now I can't send a follow up email. Gonna end up as a wasted conversation.

Forgot to ask so many people for their card ugh

Don't be bummed, if you don't get the BDO internship then you can still go for full time recruiting next fall. That is what I did and it worked out.

Don't drink the big 4 kool-aid. There is plenty of opportunity at mid-sized/ smaller firms. Work/life balance is real, and if you're good, the exit opportunities are comparable.

I'm struggling to think of a situation where you would need a nested sumif excel statement when a filtered pivot table can do the same thing...

I dont know, Im doing an accelerated (14 month) MAcc right now and...Im seriously questioning the decision. Shyt is starting to get real, I feel lost as phuck a lot of the time, and I have a really hard time focusing on this shyt when I try to study.

If I get through this, I dont know if I have it in me to go/study adequately for the CPA. Id honestly be really down to just get a Government job. A Professor was recently talking about how he put in the good word for a girl about to finish the program, and that she got a GS-12 position. Honestly, Id be content as PHUCK if I could get into GS-12 job and Im a veteran...so that should help my chances of doing something like that.

Did you get offers with no internships in your junior year? I actually plan on getting my MACC so I still have another shot for internships next fall.

I wouldn't have cared if I got rejected from the big 4 after applying but I didn't even apply since I missed the deadline lol.

TBH the postings were super confusing and I wasn't sure if it was for a tax internship or not and by the time I realized it was for a tax internship, the deadline had already passed. It was my first recruiting season ever so I just gotta take it as a lesson and not mess up next time.
