Tuff Stuff Tpr-265, good deal?
First of all this is my first post on the forum, but I have been reading it almost daily for the past few months. I have found a ton of useful information, so thanks to everyone!
Moving on, I am going to look at a used tuff stuff tpr-265 power rack tonight. It also has the THL-305WS High/Low Pulley Attachment with 200 lbs. weight stack. Seller tells me it is 5 years old and is in great condition. He is asking $500 for it.
So do you guys think $500 is a good price or is that too much? seems a little high to me, but this is my first power rack so if someone could give me an idea of what it is worth and/or any other information about this rack, I would greatly appreciate it.

I think this is a pretty high dollar brand. Just googleing around it looks like this setup was well over $1000 new so I'd say it's a fair deal. I don't think you're stealing it but he's not taking a real bad beating either. Sounds fair. Of course, just wait and I'm sure somebody here bought one for $100 and the guy delivered it, threw in some naked pictures of his wife and bought him dinner and a six-pack to boot so.....

I would buy that in a heartbeat if it was near me. I would love to have the easy adjust sliding spotters. That thing was probably around $1500 new. Tuff Stuff makes some very nice equipment. A friend of mine has an all-in-one gym, and it works great for what it is.

From the google searches I have done it looks like new the rack sold for $500 - $600. I can't seem to find any information on how much the lat option was. I would guess another $300 or so? I don't know how much prices have changed in the last 5 years.

I had a Tuff Stuff Rack that was an older model and wasn't quite as nice as this one I was pretty happy with it for a good while. I'd probably still have it if I didn't get a very good deal the monster in my garage now.
My only complaint was that it was a little light, and would sometimes scoot a little when racking heavier weight for incline/ seated military press. However with a weight stack attached, that would probably negate that problem.
$500 isn't a bad deal and you're getting a solid rack (upon inspection of course) for the $$$. It's doubtful you will find as nice a rack w/ lat option for less, but I guess it does happen. The lat machine looks to be decent, rides on rails rather than tubing, and has a weight stack which is a fairly expensive upgrade on any rack.
If you've been looking for a while, and this is the best deal that's come up go for it, I doubt you'll be disappointed, and you'll end up with a better rack (even without the lat stack) than $500 new would get you. If you haven't been looking long, it's likely you could find something cheaper, but it probably wouldn't be as good a rack as this one. It's a call you're gonna have to make based on finances, etc. If it came with weights and a bench I'd say go for it for sure, but there are some crazy deals out there.
Also a reminder, offer him $400 and see what he says, at worst he could say no, then you say fine, $450.
If this is the rack it's a beauty:

I have a TS rack like that. I'm not sure of the model however. It has a 200 lb stack with a hight\low pully and a lower attachment for your feet for the rows\sit ups, etc... I also got the dip bars\attachment and padded bar that goes across your thighs as you do the lat pulldowns. I paid approx. $1,000 for it new about 10 years ago. $500 seems a little high. I think $400 is a fair price. The TS rack is very solid and well built. It has thicker steel than the Power Tec racks. I was never disappointed with it. I have it taken apart and stored in my utility room. If you are in my area and are interested, PM me. (I just looked at the link above and mine is the older model).

I don't have enough posts to include a picture, but take the space out after the http: and you can see what it looks like. He also has a set of what appears to be Hampton plates. He wants $200 for those, comes with a tree. I might try to get the rack and the plates for $500. I already have plates, but they are just cheap "standard" olympic plates.

500 is a fair deal... with the 200 lb stack....lat bar, tricep bar and the dip piece on the safeties.... if it doesnt have the accesories...then closer to 400 is a better price
if it had some plates or a bench that came with it... it would a NICER deal...
its a very nice rack....I have a tuff stuff half rack...paid 550 (a little over paid) but it came with oly plates, plate rack, bar, no weight stack though, bench and accessories. you can try to offer 400-450 stating that you will need to get a bench and plates.. and you can easily re sell it in the future on CL for 450-500 so you arent really going to be out anything....
it seems that youve been looking on here and CL for a little while.. something a little cheaper may come along in your area...but youll have to wait it out for another 1 2 3 4 months prob.... so... you just have to make a decision if you are willing to wait it out... having said that I jumped the gun and bought my half rack and wished I would have waited it out even for a few more months if need be to get the best deal for a full rack...

Yeah I don't really see a lot of power racks for sale in my area. I really don't want to spend more than $500 (translation: the wife doesn't want me to spend more than $500) on whatever I end up getting. If everything checks out okay, I think I will offer him $400 for the rack and $500 for the rack plus the oly weights and tree.
Speaking of the weights, if they are in fact Hampton deep-dish like I think, anybody know how much a 255lb set of those is worth?

Yes, if she can do the cooking. She can do it naked but that might ruin your appetite.

I went and looked at the rack, it was in near perfect shape so based on my research and the advice of you guys I made the following deal:
For $550 I got:
Rack + lat tower/weight stack (smooth as any commercial equipment i have used)
Lat bar
Triceps rope
straight bar attachment
Mint condition 255lb set of Hampton deep dish plates (I am in love with these!)
Tuff Stuff weight tree
Hampton super curl bar
Hampton 6' aluminum ultra-lite training bar (15lb, 150lb capacity)
Set of heavy duty rubber floor mats
I wish he would have had a decent 7' olympic bar, but other than that I think I got a pretty good deal. I can't wait to get it setup and start lifting!
Much thanks to everyone who offered information and advice.

Good deal. Do you already have a routine planneed? And don't forget nutrition, the most important part.

Well like many others I plan on starting a routine based on Rippetoe's Starting Strength. I have worked out for years primarily doing dumbbell based workouts. I have never been very consistent or goal oriented though... I was a musician and partying got in the way quite a bit Now I'm older and definitely more "settled", so I am ready to commit to a good routine and achieve some goals. I want to get stronger and gain some muscle. I'm not a very big guy and have never weighed more than 152lbs. I want to see if I can get to 160.

Close. No naked pics, but I got everything plus another grand worth of stuff for $50. Flipped it while I was eating the steak dinner the seller brought and drank the beer in his pickup while his wife drove me to the strip club. Then we went to the waffle house at 4am and got some taters smothered & covered......then she took me home.
It was an ok deal I guess .
