Leaving Shakes in the fridge over night

I normally take my shakes in the morning with breakfast but work changed my schedule so I barely have the time.
Is it ok to leave shakes in the fridge over night.
Roommate told me it's pointless but he's one to rant about stuff he knows jack all about

A mixed whey protein shake is an absolute breeding ground for bacteria. The growth starts as soon as you mix it. You should really just mix them and drink them to order. Most of the manufacturers recommend you drink any protein shake within 2 hours of mixing.

I've had them in the fridge for up to 24 hours and I'm still alive. If they are really cold, you won't notice any taste difference either (if there is any taste difference at all).

Shouldn't be any more hazardous than a refrigerated open bottle of milk?

Adding 2 scoops of protein powder/ice/water to a shaker cup takes me all day to do also.

What does it really take, like 1-2 mins MAX if you are a total idiot. You don't have 2-3 mins before work? Try waking up 5 mins earlier, good god man.

LOL, it takes me about 30 seconds to make a shake. Pour in whey, pour in milk, screw on cap, shake.

Dunno about that. Never smelled bad to me. Of course, mine is always in a Blender Bottle.

I don't understand why a refrigerated shake would be a "breeding ground for bacteria". Assuming it's closed up in a shaker cup, it's no more prone to bacteria than a jug of milk. I've left shakes in the fridge many times...no gastric discomfort or food poisoning.

If it's just over night, its fine. I've left one in the fridge for an entire day...and it does taste a little off...no matter what protein i've used. I've opened one after a few days and I would not recommend drinking one then....smelled like a cat pooped in my shaker bottle.

I do this too, make a shake for me and my girl and have them overnight. It def. makes the shake taste better, no matter what brand I've noticed. Whipping it up on the spot and drinking it, no matter how cold your milk/water is, or ice you add, doesn't seem to match the taste of it being in the fridge overnight. wacky.

I've noticed many people on here overthink things. Some times you just have to let common sense rule. If it's more convenient to mix up a shake at night, put it in the fridge and then drink it first thing in the morning, do it.

Don't worry about how much it MIGHT breakdown or whatever. And a breeding ground for bacteria from the minute it is mixed? Do you never eat leftovers? That's what a fridge is for.

    Keep it simple, guys.

Those are heat treated and stabilized. Completely different story.

Believe me. Leave a shaker in the fridge for 2 months next to a muscle milk product and the difference will be obvious in the bacterial growth in the shaker.

Well, the question was overnight not 2 months.

Again, let's have some common sense here. A protein shake kept overnight in the fridge is not going to harm anyone.

ive never understood how people "dont have the time" to make a shake. it generally takes me 33.46 seconds to throw milk/water in a cup, add a scoop, and shake...

I'm with jcosley...it literally takes 1 minute to make a shake in a BLENDER.

OP why don't you put the milk in a shaker, the powder in a baggie, and put those in the fridge overnight and just dump the powder in your shaker at a stoplight on your ride to work? It's not like you're doing anything productive at stoplights anyway.

And that way you can sleep for the extra 2 minutes instead of waking up early.

He has a 45 min drive....yet has no time. Makes no sense. Keep your protein in your car then, put 2 scoops in a shaker w/ ice..shake while driving. CRASH. FAIL. REPEAT.
