I have been getting ulcers lately since my diet change, ranging from my throat, inside lip, gum and tongue. It's been happening for a good month now and its starting to get frustrating.
I take multi V and Vitamin C aswell as the occasional salt water daily but i can't seem to stop them coming through.
My cutting diet consists of a 1500 cal day of Cereal, Eggs, Low fat milk and yoghurt, Chicken, Fish, Steak, Veggies, Nuts, natty pb, Whey, Casein.
Is there anything that is causing this or is my immune system still dodgy from my tonsils being romoved a couple of months ago and a tongue peircing last month?
Thank you in advance

Have you changed your toothpaste or mouth products? You say you got a tongue pierced and you probably are using some type of mouth rinse. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate in your mouth products can cause ulcers. Go check out your toothpaste or mouthrinse and try a different one without that chemical.
Let me know if that helps.

Whitening toothpaste does this to me and it suuuuuuucks.

when I eat apples or blueberries I can feel my mouth swell up, but I haven't linked this directly to ulcers

if you haven't had the issue with the toothpaste in the past and recently changed your diet...well, probably not the toothpaste then.
is there something in your diet your are currently ingesting more amounts of? take stock of what you have b/c there might a small component or trace element in the food that is causing these aphthous ulcers(if they painful, elevated, throughout the mouth).
knew of someone who was very allergic, she could not eat bananas/kiwi's b/c they caused her to have ulcers all over her mouth...turned out, there was a trace element in both that set her allergy off.
topical care is what you can look for, they make something called debacterol(given my licensed doc) that could help w/ pain...
good luck.

Everything in my diet i have eaten previously, although i have had more of certain things than i did previously.
I eat maybe a dozen almonds a day as a hunger suppressent, this could possibly be causing them, although i doubt it.
Stuff that i had implemented into my diet in the past few weeks has been:
Scivation Xtend
Opti-Men Multi Vitamin
ON 100% Gold Standard Casein
No new foods.
I'll just continue taking Lysine tablets for a couple more days and see what happens1st July 2009 - 264lb (120kg)

I remember a while ago i took these fish oil caps and got 2 bad sores in my mouth, i stopped after like 3 days, i believe it was some kinda poisoning from the caps, right after i stopped the fish oil, sores stopped. Id watch the fish consumption maybe, might be the mercury or something, worth a shot but im rly not sure.

We actually got a question like this when I was interning in a drug information center and it turns out theres some good information to support B12 supplementation like the previous poster said. Haven't heard of using lysine but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt. It can take a while for these supplements to have a significant effect so if it's really bothersome you might want to grab an OTC anesthetic like Orajel for the pain.

Ohhh dam it, hahaa dude now i remember.
Thier are traces of heavy metals and other stuff besides mercury as well in certain fish oil brands, i looked it up and thats what made me stop.
The poisoning symptoms from this 1 very bad compound in it could actually get worse then mercury poisoning as i remember, if i recall correctly, can i ask if ur getting heat flashes or anything like that? if it is the fish oil, which it probably is, id get off it asap lol, you can read about it too if u want. I dont have any links but just google fish oil toxicity.

My husband also has a canker sore problem.....has had it on and off for many years, and he is an MD himself. He has been to the mayo clinic and seen specialists, nothing really works long term, it might help for a bit, but not for the long haul.
What he has learned is that he can avoid certain products that make him break out more, he still does break out but not as much if he avoids certain products.
He avoids tooth paste with certain ingredients (dont remember off the top of my head)
He only uses certain Tom's of Maine toothpastes, certain Sensodyne, Biotene and Weleda Salt Toothpaste.
Chewing gum makes him breakout.
Muscle Milk Strawberry flavored protein, or any artificial strawberry makes him breakout.
He never had canker sores till his mid 20's and has had them since. He has learned what to avoid to control them.*IIFYM*

I had this problem more so when I was in high school....at the time I ate a ton of candy (cinnamon *****, like a pack a day), so I thought it was either the sugar or the cinnamon, and today eating clean I don't get them as much unless I cut my mouth and one will inevitably form. I do think it's somewhat hereditary bc my uncle gets them really bad.
