pooping on keto.
I started keto'ing this week, in light of the carb restriction and my fondness for taking huge dumps I didn't want the complete lack of fibre to mess with my daily ritual of awesome.
I think may have found a solution as I'm still taking daily dumps of a sizable nature, more regularly and easier than while eating carbs, in fact.
Anyways. I just went and bought 100% wheat bran from the baking needs section.
Per scoop it has 10 carbs, of which 6 are fibre (26% of RDA) so 4 net carbs.
I take 4 scoops (90ml scoop) a day, and it is my only carb source period, no veggies, no trace carbs, just meat, eggs, and oil. So the impact it has is 16 net carbs. Don't eat it raw or try to mix it in a shake, unless you like eating sawdust.
A great recipe I've made is this fried chicken recipe. (has got all the ratios down pretty solid too)
Requires-
2 boneless skinless chicken thighs.
4 egg yolks (or 2 whole and add more oil)
10 ml Olive oil (add more or less to get the ratio right)
a fry pan
put the olive oil in the fry pan and fry up the chicken thighs. I tend to break them up with my spatula while they're cooking, throw in the bran, let it cook for a bit. Move all the chicken into the center and then dump the yolks on top of them. Immediatly mix it around as quickly a you can to try to get the bran to stick to the chicken. Even if all of it doesn't stick its no problem. The fried bran still tastes good as hell. Salt to taste and eat up.
Cheers.

Fiber supplements are popular, but to be honest, wheat bran is not the one I'd use. Psyllium husks are very effective and more gentle. You can also use them to thicken shakes etc.
However, the best thing is to just eat your green veg. An average portion of broccoli etc has 4-5g of fiber, and things like spinach and rhubarb has even more.
Pooping on keto should not be a problem. You should not need to mainline that much bran.
65% fat, 30% protein, 5% carbs = keto.

Right, and the smaller poops you might take (other complain about loose stool on keto as the fat can have a laxative effect) is becuase you are injesting more foods that your body can actually absorb, leaving less in your intestines to expel.
If you feel you need more regular BMs while on keto, a little flax oil (or a small amount of ground flax seed for your fiber) or coconut oil should do the trick.

thanks. I've had pretty bad and frustrating experiences with psyllium husks. I'll definitely be including more green veggies after a few cycles of ckd.

psyllium husks. invest in them.

Rebelling in my psychosis
If the fiber supplements don't do the trick, miralax is another option. It's not a stimulant laxative so is safe and doesn't lead to dependance, but can really help move things along. Adding a little to a glass of water or coffee or tea every morning can work wonders.

From personal ex. I found out the the zinc I'm consuming in all the green vegies I consume can have a constipation effect. Working that out with supps and mother pharmacy.
I can do all things through Christ Jesus, who strengthens me!

Have you tried adding some magnesium in? Sometimes a magnesium supplement in addition to supplemental zinc can help balance things out and promote 'movement' down there.

I got psyllium husks a few weeks ago but never really started taking it. This last week ive been taking really small craps daily and I never seem to be fully emptied. Sugar-free candy things seemed to help the last 2 days - the laxative effect from a handful of them + they taste good too.
The best thing about keto compared to eating carbs for me is that even if I do need to **** it doesnt hit me at a random time of the day, I can hold onto it til I get home and I also dont get any gas or discomfort.

not to hijack, but this is related to this post. those of you that buy psyllium husks, do you do the capsule form, or powder. and how much do you take when you do. I saw 500 counts with added bacteria from vitamin shoppe for like 20 bucks seems like if you took 2-3 a day, that would give you a much longer lasting supply than say 12oz of powder
