I see lots of people doing push ups, dips, and pull ups. Why add dips though? Push ups work all the same muscles as dips plus more. Dips are hard on your shoulders also. Mixing them at the same time makes no sense does it? I think it's just a waste of energy. Thoughts anyone?

Why do people do both dips and push ups when push ups are better?

Weighted Chest Dips are maybe the best UBP movement out there, except for DB Bench/Flat Bench. Really depends on the person. But pushups<<<<dips

If you move your arms so they run parrallel with your body, hands placed around the hip area on the floor (basically the first phase of learning to do a planche push up) then they work your biceps a lil bit; a normal press up however as you stated is for chest and tri's, not bi's.
in response to OP, do normal push ups to target chest, Dips to target Tri's; however they both overlap in these muscle groups, so you will find doing push ups will help with your Tri's, and visa versa.
