Yeah its pretty bad I'm a pharmacy technician at a hospital and our aspirin cost about $8 a piece.
um, perscription pills are about $50-$75 depending on the popularity of the drug. A drig like Levaquin is somewhere in teh range of $100 per pill, Avodart (for enlarged prostate) is even more than that.
IV antibiotics range from $375-$500 per dose
1 day in our ICU is about $100,000
and those little plastic puke pans cups and crap all comes out to about $40.
just to put things into perspective.

What? Whenever I've been to the hospital and everyone I've ever known, everything has been free. I've had free xrays, 3 cat scans etc. All free. WTF........ohhhh, wait, you are Americans with your vastly superior health care system. My bad. I think I might go wait in the emergency room after work just to get in and tell the doctor how good I feel and that everything is ok.
Really though, that's some f'd up bs.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

You're in Wisconsin so the pricing may be different but at the hospital I work at..... somewhere in the range of $1.5-2million
-9 days in ICU
-the IV antibiotics
-the machines you were hooked up to
-then once you woke up and were stable enough you were probably sent to one of the wards for a few more days
-food
yeah, thats about right.

Typical hospital costs/fees. Keep in mind, hospitals are still a business. And they must treat all incoming patients regardless of their ability to pay (and a lot of lower income individuals w/o medical coverage simply cannot pay). That is partly why stuff is insanely expensive. Not to mention the ever increasing costs of medication, etc.

you can do that at my hospital.
If the doctor prescribes a stool softener (which is about $20 per pill) you can go to teh local drug store and buy it cheaper and take that instead.
The same applies if you're on perscription drugs (which is something everyone should watch out for)
If your parents or grandparents ever get admitted to the hospital and they are already on perscription drugs (for high cholesterol/hypertension etc) they will automtically start billing for use of these drugs as if they are coming from teh hospital.
Make sure you let them know that you are going to have them take their own meds. Don't let the hospital re-prescribe meds they are already on. It happens all the time.

if you read below, it was actually much more than that. i didn't know the cost, that was just a guess.
all the prices are jacked up with insurance. but yeah, if i didn't have insurance, i would have just asked them to put a bullet in my head.
paying 2 million dollars would be impossiblelilliiilliiliilliililliil
