^ Nice you got the new AMD 6core. Hows it run at 3.9?
Got any benchmarks?
Been wondering if I should go i7 or AMD....My Q6600 @ 3.6 runs everything I got right now on max...but I have had this processor for over 2 years now. Something has gotta be worth an upgrade soon LOL.

I haven't run any benchmarks yet because I've been having issues with ATI's crap drivers. To run most games I have to disable Crossfire or run in DX9. After searching the internet, it seems that I'm definitely not the only person to be having this problem. I may just cut my losses, sell the two cards, and get one 5970.
Oh, and I got my 1055T up to 4.003 Ghz last night, but it wasn't completely stable so I had to ease it back down to 3.975, which is where it's been sitting ever since. I'll see if I can get some pics like I promised and maybe a before/after benchmark later tonight when I get home from work.

Sorry for the huge size. Still having issues with my Crossfire setup. 3dMark won't run past the first benchmark, and neither will PCMark.

CPU: AMD AM3 Phenom II X4 955 BE
Mobo: Asus M4A87TD-USB3
RAM: 4GB DDR3-1333 forgot which brand
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 500GB
GPU: 1gb Nvidia Geforce GTX460
Case: Antec 300
PSU: 600w coolmaster
first gaming pc, taken me 2 days to become converted.... dunno if i can go back to console now
hopefully lasts a few years, wish i'd gotten a sli mbo though so i could get another gtx sometime down the line, although from what i've read the 955BE and gtx 460 both have overclocking potential so i might look at that

Yeah, my PS3 is gathering dust. I might have to throw it on craigslist or ebay.
The only issue I've got, and I'm still going through it now, is a Crossfire problem where most of my games crash unless I disable Crossfire. Sucks, but isn't enough to turn me away.

MJ= Jordan, not Jackson
My sister has a 3 year old gateway desktop which she doesn't use anymore.
So i want to turn it into a media server and dvr. All it will be used for is media duties and basic functions.
So ill prob add a tv tuner, 2nd hd, better wireless card, windows 7 ultimate, and more ram.
Is the ide vs sata drives dependant in the mother board? I want to make the hd install as simple as possible.
So considering that all tv went digital like comcast.
How can i connect it to the pc? Like do the new tv cards have built in hdtv and digital support?
I am using a digital cable box, so do i need to split that outpit signal to the pc?
What's a good card to get? Thanks

i've decided to build my first computer as my current laptop is 3 years old and knackered, therefore I could do with some of your knowledge.
Here's what i've decided on.
Case - Thermaltake Element S - VK60001W2Z
PSU - Corsair CX 400W ATX2.2
CPU - AMD Phenom II X6 1055T
MoBo - Asus M4A89GTD PRO/USB3
RAM - Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1333Mhz
HDD - Western Digital Caviar Black 3.5" SATA III 640gb
Optical drive - Samsung SH-B083L Blu Ray ROM/DVD±RW
Are all these components going to be compatiable with eachother?
Is the PSU going to powerful enough at only 400w?
Is the performance of a SATA III HDD worth the extra money as opposed to SATA II?
Also would 1600Mhz RAM be a better option? i werent sure if it will be compatiable with the MoBo.
I am planning on using the built in graphics and sound card for now until i have extra money to buy a decent one.
Any advice would be very helpful.

I'd step up with the PSU. Depending on the GPU you plan to buy, you may want to look into 550w-750w.
The 1333mhz ram you chose is fine, the mobo doesn't really support 1600mhz. You could prob OC it though.
Caviar Blacks are great OS drives. Good choice, sata3 probably won't give much of a gain over sata2 if any at all.

Plus there were issues when it came to being able to buy other computers. I was going to get a hexacore AMD + a video card but Futureshop was being a bunch of phaggots, so I had to go somewhere else.
To be honest, I didn't even expect it to be able to do what it's able to, so I'm happy with it for now. I may upgrade and build my own computer once I have some cash again, but we'll see.
The thing that pisses me off the most is walking into a store and looking at computers, and every single one of them has a great processor, decent amount of RAM, computer's good overall - and then they stuffed a 5450 in it. A guy was trying to sell me a computer with i7 920, 3GB of RAM, and a 5400 series video card, telling me it was great for gaming and was awesome because of the processor. The computer was $1,200 from the same place I got this one. I didn't even realize they had any half-decent deals until I went in the next day and the guy had a list of all the ones that weren't on display.

* Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 @ 2.66GHz (6MB L2 / 1333MHz FSB)
* Memory: 4GB PC2-6400 DDR2
* Hard Drive: 2 x 250GB 5400RPM SATA
* Graphics: 2 x 512MB NVIDIA 9800S in SLI
These were the point of my post. That CPU socket and GPU are two generations behind. The HDD's are slow and the RAM is old.
Building a PC takes 2-3 hours
