Right now i'm in wrestling and that was my only sport freshman year and I felt probably I should've joined another sport..but I didn't. And my sophomore year I am planning on joining swimming, which is the same time of season except practices are in the morning, and wrestling practice is in the afternoon. So that's like double endurance. And then when all that is over, I am planning on joining track & field also. So that's like too much cardio isn't it??... I wanna keep packing on muscle all year round. And before wrestling season i'm going to cut weight so that's going to take some muscle away.. So should I join these sports or just stick with wrestling??
Reps will be given for ppl who read it and answered

If you think you can handle swimming and wrestling at the same time go for it... it will definately help with managing weight.. and swimming is great for you.
Track and Field should also be fine.. I would recommend it. If you trying to pack on muscle though I would just say don't do long distance. Instead do sprinting or throwing, or really anything else besides long distance.. thats what will eat away at your mass.

Don't do two sports in one season ... especially those two. You will be taking away from your performance in one if not both so that's the first problem. The second is, swimming and wrestling are both going to burn calories like no other ... and since in wrestling it involves making weight, it's very possible to knock a lot of weight and not being as close to the top of your class as possible. They will burn away your muscle QUICK .... basically like very hard two-a-day training sessions for the entire season. Pick one sport and put all your effort into it. I'm assuming it's wrestling you will pick, so try and stay at the top of your weight class you are wrestling at or just above once practices start in the winter (I think that's the correct season) so when it comes time to cut for a match you won't have any problem. I would suggest right now getting stronger .... but don't get too big because you want it to be reasonably easy to drop to your wrestling weight and not lose a bunch of strength.

backing up jgood with this one. i tried it my senior year. ended up quitting wrestling for swimming cuz the workload was too much. hurt my shoulder too.
as for track id say try the sprints or jumps. maybe polevault. undersized for throwing and sprinting will help with muscle growth and bareminimum speed which is always important.ACE-PT, NSCA, USATF-1

Well I was thinking swimming would be fun to try but if it's going to a lot of muscle being in two sports since they're endurance..they both start in Nov. and end Late Jan/Early Feb. Just thought it might be fun. And yeah for track i'm going to do sprints none of that 5000M stuff. >.<

in highscool (just graduated) i wrestled, swam and ran track just as you plan on doing. i cut weight like a muther f***** too. i didnt loose an ounce of strength from doing this. i started the season this year at around 155 and consistantly cut to wrestle in the 140 weight class, there is a science to doing this. i tested my stregth before and after the season: squat, deadlift stayed the same, bench went down a whoping 5 lbs and i could do 3 more pull ups (16). you just have to cut right.
imo swimming with the wrestling is great, but i didnt swim every day. i think that would be just too much. as you probably know the extra endurance goes a long way. but the carry over from swim to wrestling isnt that great. what really helps your wrestling enurance is, you guessed it: more wrestling. if you need/want the extra edge stay after practice (or go in the morning instead of swimming everyday) and wrestle 5-10 one minute goes. (assuming you know what those are, i would guess your school does them)
as for track i did it for 2 years then quit, not because there was anything wrong with it, i just wanted to get some more off season practice in and it gave me more time to bulk up for the next year.
what highschool do you wrestle for?

yeah def not if you dont eat before practice then.
but if you dont wana loose strength i would suggest 1 or 2 days to get some weights in
preferably in the morning (in season) but i wouldnt ever go over like 85% of you 1rm
oh and dont ever not eat, im sure you here it all the time but itll keep the strength on

Its been a long time since high school form but how can you play two sports at the same time. When do you practice and wouldn't the compations be on the sameday or to compations in a row?
If I remimber the CIF rules of my time it wasn't allowed anyway. Excetions where over lap of seasons.
Also people seem to forget you grow and recover when resting.

If you're still interested in swimming, you can join a team at a swim club during the summer. Most don't require previous experience and the practices aren't as demanding as a high school team so you could easily balance swimming and offseason lifting.

Don't do swimming. I'm been swimming for 10 years. All 4 years in high school and it sucked. I mean it got me into college but that's it. I was easily burning an extra 2000 calories a day. Morning practice at 5:45, afternoon practice at 3:30 followed by an hour of lifting afterwards. Most people do not gain weight during swim season, they lose it. And if you think it's a great way to cut, you'd be wrong too. Because the water is cold, your body tells itself to keep an extra layer of fat to keep warm while you're in the water. Occasionally swimming doesn't do this, but a season of swimming everyday might have your body adapting in such a way. In the end, swimming is not a good sport for gaining muscle.
