Pro Tan overnight comp color with OR without spray applicator??
I am competing my first time in figure and am puzzled about which Pro Tan competition color to get. What are the pros and cons of the "orginal" 8oz overnight comp color and the newer 16oz color with the spray "gun" attached? Is there a difference in the number of coats you need to apply, can you actually just spray the spray product on skin, is there difference in the color you get or something?
How many bottles are needed and which finishing product (Pro Tan stage finish or Pro Tan quick bronzer) would go best with the color?

I'd just go with dreamtan #2. You don't need more than 1 coat the night before, sleep in it, touch it up in the morning and you are done. No finishing sheen needed either.

Go with the big bottle gun ... I'll never go back to the 8oz squirt. The difference is about an hour of your time standing almost naked while someone paints you.
MAKE SURE THE NOZZLE IS LINED UP TO THE OPENING ... that's the key to making that thing work.
Then it's just like painting a car. Apply light coats and it will look amazing ... if it starts to run you're putting it on too thick.

Thanks Barn01 a lot! I saw your other answers too to another guy and found a helpful tip on laying on the floor to catch all the mist evenly on your body.
So, its me and my boyfriend who are competing together . Would you recommend two bottles of the 16oz spray bottles and 1 can of Pro Tan Stage Finish (it includes the sheen - says, no oil needed) would be enough for two bodies? We are both pretty light skin.
Thanks so much already!!

I don't recall ever saying to lay on the floor and let it fall on you?? Can you copy and paste that quote? haha
Lets put it this way ... I did 3 shows and went through 2 16oz bottles. (If I were you, to be safe get 2x 16oz spray and 1x 8oz for small touches and your face) Get dream tan instead of the stage finish. I've apply stage finish to someone once and wasn't impressed with it compared to dream tan. I recommend the #2 Don't worry about buying sheen. Just use a light mist of PAM if you feel you need more that what's in DT. One dreamtan should be enough for both of you for one show. I never use more than half a jar.

Thanks SO MUCH Barn01, I will get these! Hey, how badly the Protan will stain and ruin your shower ceramic/plastic walls if it gets there? I live in an apt and am worried about causing permanent stains. Does it come off if you rinse with water or something or should I cover the whole shower cabinet with plastic bags?
Sorry to confuse but I meant there was another guy (Fltallpaul) in the same thread to give this tip below:
"I used the sprayer but came up with a clever way to get it even. I layed down on my back and had my girlfriend spray. This way all the mist will settle on you. Then turn over into the pushup position, repeat. We did this with the whole bottle and I was happy. Pro Tan will only get you so dark though, 6-7 coats and its maxed out. Stage finish is necessary to look dark on stage."

It washes off every shower wall and tub I've used it in. I just make sure there's a towel on the floor to catch the drips if there are any. If you get the paint spray bottle you won't have to lay down ... it's literally like painting a car. Maybe he was talking about the 8oz push spray ... that thing sucks for full body and I just end up pouring it into a cup and using the foam brush to paint that on ... but it takes forever that way.
He's right about it eventually maxing out and you should still use something like DT over top. Protan only for fitness modeling but you should be darker for bodybuilding.
Oh and if you can apply any of that stuff outside it's usually better to do so. No smell and you don't worry about the mess. It dries faster too so you can get to the next coat. If you want protan to look good you have to be patient with it.

Hey Barn I know you don't hve to lay down, i just found it really easy and much more effective to just lay down and let the spray settle on the skin. I was able to get a lot more use out of the bottle this way.

Great advice!! I am actually a figure girl but my boyfriend will compete in bodybuilding. Ill get the Dream tan #2 (so bronz is better than gold?) for him and see at the show if I need put on some too.
Yes, outside would be perfect! I just dont know how we could do it naked without neighbors seen us you know . I was told to spray it everywhere, even underneath the suit to make sure that nothing shows in case your suit shift a little...

No worries, we all have our little magic tricks if you will. I just stand in a shower or out side and let the person spray me down ... I usually have enough protan around that I suppose I don't really think about the cost of the over spray. If you really want your money's worth poor the whole thing into a cup and dip the brush in it ... no waste at all but it's very time consuming and the first couple layers look like crap from all the brush streaks.

You don't need to be naked ... I have a posing suit that I use just for painting. Just hike it up your butt and move it around when painting. Wait until an hour before you stage before you put on your posing suit. That way there's less chance you'll smudge it. Oh and make sure you cut out all the tags first. Last think you want is to have a tag sticking out on stage ... and yes it can happen pretty easily

That's nothing new. So put it on outside the venue then walk in. My first show I was in the parking lot wearing next to nothing with my 2 friends slapping me down with dream tan ... I had women walking past taking pictures and were in shock. Pretty funny I thought

Has anyone used, or prefer JAN TANA COMPETITION TAN instead of PROTAN? I like the color, and its got a nice smell to it. Could you still use dream tan over it, or would you use oil over it?
