Does anyone else NOT use a pre-workout product such as jack3d, or no explode or one of those or am I among the few? Today at the gym it seemed everyone took them and was stunned when I said that I didnt. I usually just have a protein shake with some oatmeal, fruit, and yogurt and hit the gym bout an hour later.

I force myself not to use them often because I dont want to grow dependent of them. They do help but nothing has worked better for me than a great pre workout meal. Pre workouts are great for the early morning sessions though when you need that kick to get up and going

I Interesting comment. At one time I was avoiding pre-workouts as not to get dependent on them as well. Which is why I stayed away from prohormones, steroids ..etc
Honestly, if you eat well, have a strong mental attitude and determination you really are set to achieve what you want regardless. 90% of this is mental too. Some people think if they are not taking supplements they are missing out and thus believe they are under achieving, some become obsessed about it and consume 5-10 different products a day thinking this is the key for health and might & muscle. Many supplements are legit and have helped many people, so don’t get me wrong, but they are nothing more than just "supplements". I stopped taking pre-workouts after years of using some of major brands out there and just got sick of it; sick the feeling, tolerance effect, the crashing effect afterwards, fake pump, and mostly not knowing what the heck I am swallowing in those propriety blends that really you have no clue how much of what I am ingesting. And when I email them I get the typical reply that it is a trade secret (year right, bunch of fake lies and promises) ..etc. So, I took a long time off, and focused on healthy clean diet. Currently I just started a new pre-workout supplement and an antioxidants and fish oil (that’s all I take now), I don’t take the pre-workout for the stimulant effect or just to get a fake pump at the gym, rather because I needed some help bulking up and going beyond the plateau that I have reached – 2 scoops gives me 5 grams of BCAA, 3 grams of Glutamine and 4 Grams of Creatine Monohydrate in addition to 2 grams of Beta Alanine (and much more). This has helped me in recovery and endurance which translates to lifting heavier and more often while seeing progress in strength and size. As I am bulking up, I am lifting heavier and doing a mix of power lifting and bodybuilding exercises that recovery and endurance became an obstacle toward my performance. So far it has worked, I take it as a pre-workout and post-workout and I plan to stop after couple of bottles then take a break.
good luck

i take them when i feel i am not at my best, usually this is after a poor breakfast or i am still tired for whatever reason it may be. but like some of the above posters, i try to not become dependent on it, although i was 6 months back or so, which really sucked. fixed my diet since then though

i used to take pre-workout formulas... stopped about a year ago..
as of the past year, my training schedule has been weak, due to family and such.
so im just getting back into a consistent routine..
over the past few days ive been debating on whether to try a pre-work out formula again.. ive been lurking this forum, to view ideas of others...
im still somewhat undecided..
i am very unhappy about my current strength levels, however..

Thanks for the suppport guys I was begining to think that I was the only one. I completely agree that nutrition is far more important them stims or supps so thats what i concentratre on. By the way what do some of your pre-workout meals look like?? I ususally have either some oatmeal with fruit and eggs or a shake then hit the gym bout an hour later. I try to use the template alan provides on his thread but kinda do whatever Im feeling, either more or less food. let me know what some of your pre meals look like. Thanks
